i'd give you a cookie, but that'd be counter-productive. how about a carrot?

Ab exercises will NOT target a beergut. And you DON'T want muscle growth in the mid-section. For any other part of the body that is flabby (chest, arms, legs, etc), muscle growth would make it look less flabby, as the ratio of muscle to fat would increase.

But the mid-section is one part where you do not want any muscle growth (just muscle strength and endurance). And in fact, if you grow your abs to a massive size and still have fat on top of them, you will look even flabbier.

Cardio is the only way to reduce a beergut. (and fat on other parts of the body as well)

Try HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training... it is way more effective at reducing flab than just plain cardio. Look it up on wiki or any good fitness site.

And yes, diet is just as important. Cut out all refined carbs and grains/grain products. That means no white bread, no white rice, no cookies, cakes, snacks, refined cereals, sugary drinks, candies, etc. Eat 5-6 times a day. Reduce the percentage of carbs in your diet (eat unrefined carbs/grains, but also reduce how much you eat of them). Eat plenty of fruits and veggies, and good quality lean protein. And drink tons of water.

i'm no expert, but i don't think it's really even possible to put on 15lbs of lean muscle in 2 months.

pretty much already covered but diet is #1 IMO..cardio just behind that

[Edited on October 29, 2008 at 7:37 AM. Reason : ^not cleanly and/or without steroids or something. 1lb/wk of real muscle is doable]

Yup.
Back in February and March, I was working out way more, but hadn't changed my eating habits much, and I struggled to even lose five pounds.

It's a damn shame, because I love food so much, but me and moderation are gonna have to come to an understanding

I can offer up lots of healthy, filling, low-calorie meal options if you need some help in the moderation department. (But they're all vegetarian.)

And shit, I lost 15 pounds and all my pants literally fall off of me now. That can make a BIG difference.

OK not like I stand up and they fall off just yet, but they easily come off without unzipping them. I really need to go shopping.

I've lost about 20 with dieting and the couch-to-5K plan

I'm most surprised at how far I can jog without feeling like I'm going to die

i lost 10 pounds in 4 weeks on the south beach diet

it sucked at first not having any carbs but once your body gets used to it, its fine.

I've kind of gone off the diet since my wedding and have gained back 4 pounds so I probably need to start the diet over again.

^^^yeah, I have figured that out

I felt so much better after I lost that 10 pounds. I wasn't as tired as I used to be.

I think I just need to exercise more and monitor what I eat for snacks. Snacks are my weakness. I love a bowl of cookie crisp cereal for a snack!

congratulations. i am very jealous!

i hit a serious plateau. even though i've only eaten 800-1000 calories/day for 6 years, i just recently stopped losing weight. my trainer had me double my intake and i've lost 3 pounds since then .

hopefully i can lose another 15. i'd LOVE to be down to 120. if i ever get there, i'll probably be naked all the time.
