Of cities? Or perhaps it's just the cities that I know. What cities do you know of where it's the south side? ...I mean I'm sure there are exceptions, for instance the north part of NYC (at least Harlem) is the 'bad part' but everywhere else it seems to be a rule.

L.A., Phoenix, Tucson, Chicago

South Rocky Mount = Nasty.
South Raleigh = Not so great either.

This theory checks out.

the south side of most cities is typically where the growth is. Raleigh is an exception as it's bordered by towns to the south

north charlotte is pretty shit.

so is the west end in atlanta, though south is worse than north overall.

NYC? you got financial district and long island vs. harlem and the bronx...

i live in south charlotte, and it's def not the bad side. also, south durham isn't technically the bad part. but durham is kind of an anomoly cause it's like, good part, bad part, good part, bad part all going down the same road.

^^^well there was a vote and it was decided that the south side was so developed and awesome that pouring money into the north side would be a waste of money given that money can get everyone a developed north side but not a south side.

west charlotte is the least developed. but the city sees that. The new law school we just finished will hopefully reinvigorate that side of the town.

but yeah, west charlotte is the bad part

Saint Louis's South Side is experiencing a revolution. It's the east and the north, to an extent, that is the "bad" part.
