Is there a difference between etherchannel between (2) Cisco devices or etherchannel between a device sharing dual NICs?

I'm not sure if there are protocols involved as Cisco to Cisco is proprietary and you never really have to investigate this type of thing.

Depends on if you're doing PAgP or LACP

PAgP = Cisco proprietary
LACP = IEEE standard

I'm not sure if I need to specify. I looked a previous configs and I take it that Cisco has the default set. I'll try it w/out. How would you apply UDLD?

Do you have a sample config?

yes, you need to specify.

what switch are you using, and what are you trying to create an etherchannel with? A server? Does it support LACP?

you're not going to want UDLD between a switch and a server.

its a 4948 . . . i have time to look into this. tomorrow I have to upgrade a CallManager cluster spread across the city. should be fun, fun, fun . . .

then I'll do the 4948 etherchannel. i'll be connecting (9) HP servers with dual NICs teamed. they'll be port channels configured on the 4948.
