I'm fixing an old lady's computer. what is the most recent OS that will run on a 733mhz PIII? I haven't touched one of these in so long, I'm not sure if TinyXP will run on it, or if I have to get win98/2000.

thanks for the help

xp on an 866 w/ 512mb ram isn't terrible. 733 with 128 was horrible. just make sure you have enough ram.

the visual theme isn't important so if it's a 733 i may still install xp and use the win95 theme...i haven't actually booted it up yet, it is en route now...just trying to be prepared for the worst.
and to reiterate, it's not my machine lol i'd rather go without than use that piece of shit paperweight.

and thanks stowaway for the input.

tiny xp will rock that machine.

if the hard drive was really old it'll lag.

Solaris 10!

On a serious note, for the Windows OSes the only requirement that really matters is size of main memory... as long as you turn off all of the menu animations and have around 1.5X the recommended minimum memory, it should be fine. Old people aren't in any particular hurry anyway.
