**NBC News
Quote : | " TOLEDO, OHIO -- Toledo police are gearing up for possible "Civil unrest" during and after tomorrow's elections.
In an internal memo obtained exclusively by NBC 24 News, officers are ordered to "Have their riot equipment with them Tuesday and Wednesday". Police chief Mike Navarre confirms, officers will have gear similar to the equipment they used during the 2005 race riots. "They have been asked to have their helmets and their gas masks available tomorrow and Wednesday.", Navarre says, "That's the equipment they would not normally carry with them on a normal day".
Navarre also says, officers will not be stationed at individual polling stations. But the memo says otherwise. It reads, "On Tuesday, units shall be directed to patrol the polling locations". " |

^Black people smart enough to use the internet will not be the ones rioting. Granted, that only eliminates a few percent of possible rioters, but every bit helps. 11/4/2008 2:59:34 PM |

Rioting is not a question of intelligence, it is a social phenomenon. Once others are rioting then your incentive to 'not riot' is gone, as the police can no longer arrest all of you. 11/4/2008 3:05:10 PM |

^I know. I was just looking for an opportunity to make a racist comment.
Though, you must admit, there is at least a disproportionate representation of the unintelligent among rioters. 11/4/2008 3:06:48 PM |

Do you seriously believe that a significant percentage of people in these (possible) riots spend their time engaged in political discussion on the internet?
It was a bit of hyperbole, but the point remains true.

i don't think it'll be the black people rioting. most of them are too smart to carry things so far as to riot. i think the rioting will be started when mccain wins by the far left extremist who go berserk over things like this. 11/4/2008 3:50:48 PM |

^^ if McCain somehow ended up winning, I think rioting would be in order. There's no way every single poll out now could be wrong. It doesn't happen. 11/4/2008 3:53:26 PM |

Stop perpetuating this crap. This has been disputed by live people on the ground and they didn't harm anyone or mess with anyone.
This guy's comment has it dead on:
"You all do realize that the Black Panthers are pretty much always armed, right? That’s kind of their thing. The see themselves as being armed to defend themselves when the situation arises, but they rarely provoke attacks.
I’m sure it’s easy to read it as intimidation, and I really think it was dumb to have armed observers standing out front of a voting space, but the intention might just be that the Panthers want to make it clear that no one will stop a black person from voting here, rather than “black voters only” or something"11/4/2008 4:15:13 PM |

^ And create a wall for a white voter trying to get in while "slapping" the stick in their hands, eventually having the cops called... I dont buy the making sure nothing happens line. Im not trying to perpetuate it either, just observing
Also goes to show what someone said in another thread... how would this be different if the Klan was out front "protecting" white voters...

I think polling places are govt places
Im a graduate assistant here at the Small Business Development Center here in Greenville and it is required to be a voting destination. There have been news vans and cops out here today removing signs and people trying to convince voters (since its illegal)

More BP, that reporter better get out of there before he gets stabbed
So hold on let me get this straight...
According to an article by townhall.com
Quote : | " A Repeat of 2004 Philly Voter Chaos, Fraud Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 7:46 AM GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in at least half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.
A Pennsylvania judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could be NOT removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening, according to sources on the ground.
It is the duty of election board workers to monitor and guard the integrity of the voting process.
Denying access to the minority (in this case Republican) poll watchers and inspectors is a violation of Pennsylvania state law. Those who violate the law can be punished with a misdemeanor and subjected to a fine of $1,000 and sent to prison between one month and two years.
Those on site are describing the situation as "pandemonium" and there may be video coming of the chaos.
Some of the precincts where Republicans have been removed are: the 44th Ward, 12th and 13th divisions; 6th Ward, 12th division; 32nd Ward, Division 28.
“Election board officials guard the legitimacy of the election process and the idea that Republicans are being intimidated and banned for partisan purposes does not allow for an honest and open election process,” said McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt in a statement to Townhall.
The City of Brotherly Love was roiled in controversy during the 2004 election because of rigged voting machines that showed nearly 2,000 votes for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry before the polls had opened. A man also used a gun to intimidate poll workers at Ward 30, division 11 in 2004. " |
Did we replace them with the fuckin Black Panthers lol?11/4/2008 4:48:56 PM |

The guy brandishing the club should have definitely be removed. It doesn't matter that they're "always armed", America is past that stage in its history, or at least should move on.
And I think even blacks AND whites, would have felt intimidated by them. It personally wouldn't have stopped me, but it would have made me feel a bit uncomfortable. The civilian Fox News interviewed had a good perspective I think.
