What percentages will we be looking at?
I'm as cynical as they come. Living near NCCU, I see regular massive crowds of angry Black Democrats, and I smile every time knowing that the vast majority of them will not vote.
I predicted to my wife a few weeks ago that fewer NCCU students will vote in this election than marched in the NAACP rally in Raleigh a while ago. They march. They yell. They wear T-Shirts and campaign door-to-door. But they don't vote.
On ABCNews, they just showed black turnout in VA. 20% of blacks voted in VA in 2004. So far, it looks like the turnout is 21% in 2008.
Will this trend bear out in other states? What causes this? White turnout in VA was over 60% in '04 and '08 in VA - why are African-Americans so much less likely to vote, even now?

95% of them, yes.
If it's a consolation - there is a similarly high percentage of white voters who are idiots. I'm an equal-opportunity hater.

these guys make me want to [facepalm] with how they're ridiculously poorly they're articulating things, but come on, Boone...nobody is saying that being black implies that you're an idiot, and nobody is saying that he doesn't want black people to vote because they're black (he doesn't want them to vote because they statistically, as a group, don't vote for the candidates he supports). 11/4/2008 8:00:35 PM |

i mean, yeah, these clowns are conveying their point in about the most piss poor, ineffective, clumsy way that I can imagine, but you win no points for not being sharp or levelheaded enough to piece together the intent (either that, or you assume racism in a guilty until prove innocent manner). 11/4/2008 9:21:20 PM |

why would a black person voting for a black candidate be any different than somebody voting for a candidate because they were born in the same state? VP Candidates used to be picked based almost entirely on this latter basis. 11/4/2008 11:11:43 PM |
beergolftile All American 9030 Posts user info edit post |
it's not that
it's that black people voted in record numbers only because a black candidate was running whereas they would have not voted if it was two white dudes as usual 11/4/2008 11:49:49 PM |

It is a fact that African-American voters registered in record numbers for this election, and at a much higher percentage than any other race. That's all I'm saying. 11/4/2008 11:59:15 PM |

So far the African-American turn-out is like 2% higher than 2004.
So there goes your theory.

all i know is that EVERY FUCKING INTERVIEW with an Obama supporter was some old ass black woman who has never voted but had some kind of "revelation" and decided to cast a vote this time
i guess i got tired of hearing the same shit
if they had a bunch of intelligent people of all races talking about issues instead of how proud they were that were were "making history" i think i could have respected that 11/5/2008 12:07:40 AM |
