so I want to get auto start put on my truck. I was wondering if any of y'all had a suggestion of where to go to get this done (or if any of you might do this yourselves on the side).
I'm pretty much looking for suggestions on brands, what I should expect to pay (because I went to best buy and they wanted ~400 for it installed, and that seems a bit high), and where I should go to get it done. 11/5/2008 4:39:03 PM |

well I will give them a call but i doubt they will be able to do much on the price...
haha well damn Pat- they give me free install when I buy it at 199 according to the website, so I am gonna have to call them and see if I will need any special hookup kits
wait, on second look, they want me to buy 175 bucks worth of extra equipment, so it comes out to about the same as best buy

year make model? makes a big difference
you can get a kit from best buy for $50 and put it in yourself in less than an hour on most vehicles 11/5/2008 6:42:58 PM |

04 chevy silverado
the GM Immobilizer Bypass and the Remote Start Interface Module are what they are saying will cost 175 bucks and are necessary for installation.
^and I would have no idea how to go about installing anything like that

lol, nope, creative wiring will fix both problems for free, unless you want to pay out the ass for a plug and play setup
07 and up silverados are the only ones i havent figured out a bypass to yet, because i dont have good wiring diagrams
[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 6:50 PM. Reason : what trim level, going he oem route may even be cheaper if you are that lazy]
[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 6:51 PM. Reason : 1500? 5.3? what cab? what trim?]
[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 6:51 PM. Reason : 2wd or 4wd?]
all thats really involved, is measuring your key resistance, wiring a similar resistor between the tamper and security hall effect sensor wires for the ignition, running one extra wire for 12v reference signal, then normally wiring your $50 remote starter
[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 7:00 PM. Reason : took about 45 min to do on my old truck]
here is a different, but simpler way to basically do the same thing, as long as you dont mind flipping a switch when you get in the car

it really, really depends on the car, especially if it was made in the past 5 years or so. A lot of remote starts anyone can do, but that doesn't mean it won't be a clusterfuck rats' nest down there. Plus if you know what you're doing and you have the right model remote start, you can wire up the remote to control power windows, aftermarket fog lights, nitrous bottle opener, etc. I've seen vast disparities in the quality of remote start installations among regular do-it-yourselfers and professionals.11/6/2008 9:42:27 AM |

I'd pay someone on here to do it if you can find someone worth a damn that's still local and willing to do it. No reason to get into a job you dont want to do when you can pay a little more and not have to deal with it 11/6/2008 10:03:35 AM |

^I agree
so anyone on here confident in their skills? if so, hit me up... I'd rather pay you than best buy 11/6/2008 4:27:07 PM |
