I wonder who is going to play him? The recent trend with Marvel movies has been getting big name actors, so it opens up possibilities.

I vote Brock Lesnar for Cap.
I mean, it's Captain America. It's not like you actually have to have character...

I'm not sure what would lead you to think that. They've cast two very good actors as the leads in their past two movies.

My submission: Aaron Eckhart

^ Ah, a serious post--how refreshing.

Eckhart is a good choice and he fits the bill--but he was already Two-Face in a DC flick. I just don't like these guys crossing over--like Aaron Ashmore did from X-Men to Smallville, for example. I just think it fucks with people's suspension of disbelief--and aren't there enough talented actors out there that this can be avoided?

I trust marvel to to select someone who can fit the bill and not fuck up the character. I actually think Matthew McConaughey would be a excellent choice....I like his style and charisma.

^^I'm sure it won't happen, but I don't think it would be because of suspension of disbelief issues. Harvey Dent was played more like a character in a serious drama than a supervillian, so I don't think it would be any more difficult to mentally divorce him from that role than it would an actor in any other dramatic role. Who knows if they have clauses in the contract about not being able to be in Marvel movies for x amount of years though, or if he would even want to be in another "comic" movie in such a short span.

^I didn't think Ledger would be a good Joker at first so I'm not going to freak out if that ends up being the casting choice, but I really can't see him working as Captain America. The only "badass" character I've seen him play was in Reign of Fire and he was consistently laughable in that role. You have to remember that whoever plays Captain America is going to end up acting alongside Downy Jr., Norton, and others as the leader of the Avengers, and they're going to have to play the guy in charge. I just can't see it with McConaughey.

Kurt Russell would've been perfect for this when he was younger.

even though they are generally better actors

Brad Pitt.

Isn't he already playing in that one movie about that guy who reverses in age while he lives? Dude can pull off the scraggly youth look and still be able to pack the muscle to be Steve Rogers post super soldier serum.

Did you really not understand that I was using Ledger's casting as the Joker as an example of why I would not freak out if McConaughey were cast as Captain America...or are you trying to be funny?

I don't trust the guy that directed Jurassic Park III as much as I trusted Christopher Nolan.
