how does it work at your job? is 5 days of paid time of after a year considered good/bad/normal?
11/19/2008 12:19:03 PM
pretty normal at most places
11/19/2008 12:19:51 PM
Does that mean no days the first year? That doesn't sound normal to me. We start at 15 days, but don't get separate sick days.
11/19/2008 12:23:10 PM
i always thought 2 weeks vacation and 1 week of sick time was normal
11/19/2008 12:23:33 PM
nah i'm almost certain i dont have any paid time off until i worked for a year
11/19/2008 12:23:39 PM
5 days is normal? i got 15 days of vacation and 12 holidays (6 scheduled - 6 floating) - wife got 12 days of vacation and i forget the # of holidays but it's something like 8-10when i looked around at jobs it seemed that 10 days was more standard
11/19/2008 12:24:04 PM
^^thats pretty normal 6 months to a year before vacation/sick time kicks in[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 12:24 PM. Reason : sadf]

we start at 9 days including sick. 3 days for sick, 5 for vacation and a floating holiday of your choice. you accrue vaca time for every hour you work.here, you dont get paid time off until your 90 days are up (unless its a paid holiday). then after that 90 days you have accrued time off.[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 12:26 PM. I started right after graduation and got 64 hours (8 days) and I'll get 80 hrs for next year. We also get more time based on the number of years we are with the company.Plus all the major holidays.[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 12:27 PM. Reason : ]

our holiday thing kinda sucks...if we work on say thanksgiving they just give us an extra day off later...but its unpaid...like i dont even get time and a half AND i get another unpaid day off...so lose out money on that one
11/19/2008 12:28:34 PM
How do they "give" you a day off if it's unpaid?
11/19/2008 12:30:00 PM
i get 15 vacation days and unlimited sick days.
11/19/2008 12:31:12 PM
like an "extra" day off...so instead of working 5 days a week i'd work 4which makes no sense cause obviously i'll want 40 hours
11/19/2008 12:31:36 PM
my company gives me two unpaid days off a weekBEAT THAT
11/19/2008 12:32:21 PM
So do most companies let you decide your floating holidays or do they decide?
11/19/2008 12:32:44 PM
haha and your cornhole comment made me lol too[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Reason : ^^]
11/19/2008 12:32:59 PM
i earn 9 hours of sick time a month, and 8.5 hours of vacation time.in addition to a "floating holiday" which we can use at any point in the year
11/19/2008 12:33:12 PM
where i work...Bi-Weekly Accrual Rate Total Annual Accrual2.31 60 hours (month 1 – month 12)4.62 120 hours (month13 – month 60)6.15 160 hours (month 61 – month 120)6.8 176 hours (month 121 and above)
11/19/2008 12:33:38 PM
Move to Europe and you can take off as much time as you want.
11/19/2008 12:34:39 PM
5 days for a YEAR?I get 168 hours a year22 days (7.5 hour days)
11/19/2008 12:35:51 PM
I work for a construction company, and the schedule is fairly shitty. no vacation for the first year, although there are 6 paid holidays.after one year, you get 40 hours, after 2 years 80, and after 3 years, 120 hours, where you max out. They are cool however about unpaid sick days, no real limit to those as long as you don't abuse the privilege[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 12:36 PM. Reason : h]

We only have 1 floating holiday, but the boss picks it. It's always Good Friday.
11/19/2008 12:37:29 PM
if i work at the place for 15 years i get 20 days off
11/19/2008 12:37:47 PM
It really depends...I got 5 vacation days and 5 sick days the first year, and the 2nd year, I got 10 vacation days and 5 sick days.My wife started out with 18 days of sick/vacation time at her job, and now I think she's up to like 23 or something crazy like that.
11/19/2008 12:39:40 PM
My company...let me rephrase that...Our CFO who is completely Jewish about letting us have holidays decides when we use floating holidays.I suspect we'll get out of here early around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years because he has yet to use the 3 or 4 extra floating holiday hours we have left. He also made some people angry by not giving the company some holidays this year they had off in previous years.
11/19/2008 12:39:54 PM
haha no way I can use all of my PTO this year, gone to waste
11/19/2008 12:41:45 PM
^it doesnt roll over or anything?
11/19/2008 12:42:11 PM
go kick him in the balls, E.
11/19/2008 12:42:44 PM
yeah, im rolling a week and half over to next year cause i wont be able to use it this year.
11/19/2008 12:42:45 PM
I work for a construction company also.2 weeks Vacation5 Personal/Sick DaysAlso get 2 vacation days added to my 2 weeks for every month i am out of town workingI rarely use my personal/sick days. It is kinda understood that when your assigned to a project and miss a work day that it makes itself up with the extra hours we usually put in.
11/19/2008 12:46:30 PM
1 week the first year2 weeks the second year3-4 the following years
11/19/2008 12:52:31 PM
shit, I'm part time at PETCO and I get 120 hours a year
11/19/2008 1:04:40 PM
10 days paid vacation (no roll over, must take by the end of the year)12 sick days (roll over up to 90 sick days)holidays--i forget how many there are, and we don't get floatingwe get 15 vacation days on our 6th year, and 20 on our 20th[Edited on November 19, 2008 at 1:14 PM. Reason : ]
11/19/2008 1:11:44 PM
17 PTO Days and basically an endless amount can roll over...8 Paid Holidays. My husband works at a bank though and he gets like 25 PTO days (and he doesn't have to count sick time/less than 4 hours as PTO time) and then he gets like 12 holidays. Ridiculous! haha
11/19/2008 4:33:33 PM
we dont have to log PTO / sick time if it is less than 4 hours either. i like that a lot b/c basically i can take a few hours here and there for free pay w/out losing PTO
11/19/2008 4:35:20 PM
5 days sucks yo
11/19/2008 4:35:27 PM
11/19/2008 4:39:16 PM
After a year I got 5 days vacation, 6 sick days, and major holidaysNow I get 10 days vacation, 10 sick days, and major holidays
11/19/2008 4:44:39 PM
11/19/2008 4:45:01 PM
5 days / year is shitty, depending on what other holidays you get offi started off at 10/year and 4 hrs of sick leave are earned every 4 weeks, you can accumulate up to 30 days' worthafter 5 years i'd get 15 days/year and so on i think (10 yrs, 20 days)
11/19/2008 5:07:32 PM
i get 18 days/year off the bat. . .
