sansa e-series running rockbox...you just missed the 6gb version for $35 on woot (it comes with a microSDHC expansion slot for a (theoretical) 32gb in additional storage)

can't you break ipods so they don't require itunes software, though?

for some of us, there's yet to be software out there that manages my music like i want it managed...also, i like the idea of being able to just plug the damn thing in, drag-and-drop as an external storage device, and have the firmware on the player deal with it (see: rockbox)

fuck itunes

you like itunes on a MAC, yes? itunes on a pc makes me want to break something expensive and fragile

even then...i just don't like how ANY software organizes my music...i like how i organize it...i got rid of my zune, as much as i liked it, for that reason...i really like that rockboxing the sansa lets me do just about anything the way i want without it assuming it knows me better than i know myself

yeah it's a love-hate deal with my blackberry

love the drag and drop aspect of it, but memory cards and terrible playlisting detract a little

I have a phillips go gear
You only have to use their software iirc when putting videos on it; however, i pretty much only have music on it so whatever you want to put mp3 on with works

I manage my iPod via Winamp. I had iTunes installed for all of 60 seconds to activate the iPod before I uninstalled it.

I have a Sansa View 16GB ... I really like it, although wish that RockBox were available for it. Still, the software is solid, and you can push the files to it with WMP or just dump them through your File Manager.

Also, it has a microSDHC slot ... so you could stick another 16GB in there for 32GB flash memory total.

I got a refurb from Overstock.com for ~$80 ...

New ones are about 2x that number, looks like Newegg has some ...

iTunes doesn't organize my music. I've always had it in folders for artists, then albums. I tag songs with iTunes, but the file structure is completely independent of iTunes.

I failed the hell out of a refurb Sansa e280 (8GB + micro SD) rockboxing ... friend the unit and a USB port in the process.

The elder e250r (2GB + micro SD) won't play along either
