I have a 2003 Grand AM (V6) auto transmission. Lately when its cold it doesnt seem to want to shift out of low gears, the engine and rpms rev and it finally does. Once its warm seems to have no problem. Today though I put it in reverse and it didnt seem to want to go. The car has 100,000 miles. 11/26/2008 1:49:09 PM |

Line pressure issue. Reverse usually takes the highest pressure to shift into.
Something like a spool valve might be sticking, though I think this is an electronically shifted transmission, and shift points are determined by the PCM.
Lots of cars actually delay shifting and torque converter lockup until a reasonable operating temperature has been reached.
I dunno what to tell you on that one. Could be something as simple as your fluid and filter needing a change. Or something as complex as the tranny pump being worn out (it's a variable displacement pump; vane style) 11/26/2008 4:23:35 PM |
