Anyone see this film recently? What do you think? I personally loooooove it~ just love it so much. I think it should be the best indie film for 2008.

My roommate saw an early sneak a week or two ago and liked it a lot, but said he couldn't really see that it was a Gus Van Sant film.

Are you crazy Gus loves the indie films, just look at his last movie paranoid park, he has and still makes a lot of indie flicks

saw this movie tonight. i'm not sure if it's considered indie or not, but i usually can't get into indie movies and loved this. excellent, among the top 5 movies i've ever seen. sean penn did an unbelievable job here, this was in a sense a real martyr role for him. i'm wondering why this movie isn't playing at more mainstream theaters, but perhaps that proves the point the movie is trying to make. we have a long way to go.

I, too, can only enjoy movies with Fox, Warner, Paramount, Universal, or MGM logos on the DVD case

It's good--not a mind-blowing movie, of course, but interesting and very well-acted. Sean Penn and Josh Brolin, especially, were really good. I'd recommend it to anybody.*

for those that don't want to see it

Quote :
"It’s the early 1970s and Harvey Milk (Sean Penn) heads to San Francisco with his new lover, Scott Smith (James Franco). Homophobia and happenstance spurs the amiable Milk to a leadership role in the nascent gay rights movement. A pragmatist, Milk makes alliances with trade unions, seniors organizations and Blacks to finally win office almost a decade later after several unsuccessful attempts. Unfortunately, the tension of his nonstop campaigning causes Scott to leave, although later meetings prove it’s clear they still have feelings for one another.

Once in office, Milk’s successes – including defeating a proposed State proposition that would make it legal to witchhunt homosexuals and even non-gay gay-rights supporters from jobs in the school system – causes an envious and unhinged former fellow municipal politician Dan White (Josh Brolin) to snap. White murders both him and the mayor in cold blood."

just saw the movie a few days ago at southpoint, it was more entertaining than I thought it would be, I hadn't realized it was out at the regular theaters now.

The speech was short, but fun... he managed to call Hollywood a bunch of commie, homo loving, sons of guns a few times, & made some more serious remarks about prop 8.

The DVD comes out on March 10th, but is available for pre-order on Amazon already:

i havent seen the wrestler yet, but all of his struggles aside was his performance really that inspiring? I mean, had he not the reputation he has would this role still have gained as much hype as it did? or is the mickey rourke comeback the new bandwagon to jump on?

Ian McKellan lost in '98 when he played James Whale, a gay director, in Gods and Monsters.
