I am thinking about picking one of these up and was wondering if anyone on here had one and how they liked it. Seems like a pretty sweet car and I am really excited to see how they drive. 12/1/2008 12:30:48 AM |

I really want one of these, but don't want a car payment. I can't justify a sports car that can't get the wife and kids in (sold that a year ago), and this thing would come in perfectly. I think I will get one in about 5 years when her car gets near 200k miles or when/if either of our rides shit the bed.

If I was in the market for a midsized/fullsized sedan this is what I'd look at first.
I just wish the GT was available with a 6sp (fuckers!). 12/1/2008 1:41:03 PM |

went and took a test drive today and man is that car sweet. I will definitely be picking up one of these when I find the right deal. They had a base model 08 at the dealership I went to for $24k too bad I want the premium package. 12/1/2008 3:01:04 PM |

If you're persuasive you could probably get a good deal from any dealership right now. 12/1/2008 5:55:18 PM |

buy the f150, it's 50% off, and nevermind the gas savings
those G8's are ass ugly, IMHO. I'd get a GTO with the 6.x motor 12/2/2008 10:36:20 AM |

I understand but I personally like the way they look and while I would love a GTO I am trying to get a semi practical vehicle here and the four doors are kind of a necessity. I have also thought about the dodge charger but the one I would want is the SRT8 and I have a feeling the dealerships arent so willing to sell those for as cheap as everything else. 12/2/2008 10:43:46 AM |

They need to be willing to sell whatever the hell someone will actually buy. Especially GM. I wouldn't be surprise to see pontiac or (less likely) dodge get axed. 12/2/2008 10:48:42 AM |

Yea I like the GTO and the Camaro, but the 4-doors on the G8 will be necessary since I have two kiddos. 12/2/2008 10:53:18 AM |

^^ exactly why I am in the market right now
I know a guy (older guy with a few kids) who wanted a new minivan for his wife and went down to the dodge dealership and walked away with a new caravan for 27% off the sticker 12/2/2008 10:56:59 AM |

Love mine. Comfortable, powerful, looks great, handles decently well (feels heavy in low speed corners, but great on long sweepers). It definitely has its quirks (tranny) but all in all, great car. Havent had a problem out of it yet.
I would imagine as others said you should be able to find a pretty good deal on one right now. Dont know if you interested or not but the GXP is getting ready to come out as well. I believe MSRP will be in the high 30's. That being said it would be cheaper to get a GT and upgrade components.
Lots of aftermarket becoming available. 12/4/2008 12:50:46 PM |

Quote : | "G8 redux? Chevy comeback rumored for Holden Commodore
A fountain of tears was shed when the Pontiac G8 sedans bit the dust along with their parent brand. The Poncho-fied Holden Commodore was one of our favorite rides - particularly in its delicious, LS3-powered GXP guise with a six-speed stick. As you know, Holden is once again ready to export Zeta-based sedans to the U.S. in the form of the new long-wheelbase Chevy Caprice police cruisers, but civilian variants are not part of the program. This brings us to the latest scuttlebutt published by Drive.com.au, which reports that a new export agreement to send standard-wheelbase Holden VE Commodores back stateside as Chevrolets may be on the horizon.
Drive quotes General Motors engineer Al Oppenheiser as confirming that negotiations are indeed underway, while a second unnamed GM source told the website that it's a done deal. A Holden spokesman told Drive that in terms of exports, the focus is presently on the Caprice PPV, but added that other deals are being pursued. There's good reason to be hopeful. GM North America President Mark Reuss was the boss at Holden in 2008 and 2009, and clearly knows just how good the product is.
The G8 won widespread praise during its brief tenure, and the lack of a legit sport sedan is a glaring hole in Chevy's otherwise comprehensive lineup. It's also important to remember that thanks to the Pontiac G8, most of the development to federalize the Aussie four-door has already been done. It would likely not take much to get the current VE Series II sedan ready for a U.S. encore. Hell, if it actually happens, maybe this time GM could even go through with the ute introduction, too. Naming the Chevy version would be a snap, after all" |
This would be great if it actually happened. My only concern/though however, is how old is this platform getting. I feel like by the time they'd bring back a Chevy version it'd be getting a little long in the tooth.
