^^you obviously have never played RTS on a console or you would revise that statement.
End War on console = WIN! Command and Conquer on console = WIN!
its difficult to execute a well polished RTS on console but as its already been proven. It can be done well!
^^^yes they should and they should sell it via xbox arcade since graphics wise it almost looks the same as SC1 therefore qualifying it for an old school arcade purchase.

Buying races can be awesome as shit.
I would rather them make me play them in order to get the best sequence of events and get to pick which way I want to go by buying the races.
Assuming I am right about how this game mechanic works. 12/17/2008 6:28:53 PM |

I never played the single player junk anyway, this game is all about b.net and multi player online.
Should be fun, loved SC and Warcraft.. if they can actually figure out a way to limit the hacking it will be a great game(they haven't been able to yet with the others). 12/17/2008 9:14:56 PM |

On most competition servers, like ICCUP, there's a good amount of control over hacks and third party programs. I just worry about what SC2 is going to do to the Korean markets. Will all national competition switch to SC2? Will the current group of champs be able to keep up? This could totally shake up the competition circuit, or if the top level guys decide to bypass it completely, that would spell disaster for Blizzard. There's a LOT of pressure to perform for those guys. 12/18/2008 1:45:32 AM |

So Blizzard has started releasing Starcraft II battle reports, 20 minute long skirmishes narrated by the lead designer.

i think that all of the units/buildings look a little too cartoony for my tastes. Wish they'd make them more realistic looking, as this is the more realistic/futuristic counterpart to the more "fantasy-ic" warcraft. 12/24/2008 10:46:56 AM |

i like the cartoon-ness of it. games that try to be realistic often fail and just look bad. 12/24/2008 11:03:38 AM |
BEU All American 12512 Posts user info edit post |
I wonder how feasible slight variations in skins would be. Like dont have the buildings be exactly the same facing the exact same way. Maybe have some different markings or even different geometry. But nothing crazy. Just 3-4 different versions.
But none of that matters really when it comes down to it. 12/24/2008 11:06:02 AM |

Quote : | "Course Description: UC Berkeley students with an interest in real-time strategy games and the competitive gaming landscape are encouraged to participate in this class.
This course will go in-depth in the theory of how war is conducted within the confines of the game Starcraft. There will be lecture on various aspects of the game, from the viewpoint of pure theory to the more computational aspects of how exactly battles are conducted. Calculus and Differential Equations are highly recommended for full understanding of the course. Furthermore, the class will take the theoretical into the practical world by analyzing games and replays to reinforce decision-making skills and advanced Starcraft theory." |

Haha i think we have video game design courses in the design school. I mean it's UC Berkeley. They have plenty of credibility. Unlike us, i'm sure they can pull this off.

Learning how to design games is one thing. A course dedicated on how to play a game is another. Think a course that deals with the AI behind how the CPU controlled players invent, execute, and modify their strategy based on what is currently going on in the game. Or a course that teaches people how to design the 3-D game models, etc.
This is probably what they are referring to, but my first read of the course description made it sound like they'd just sit around determining the fastest rush build orderings.

I've been following the SC2 development as best I can on blizzard's forums and a few other sites.
Did anyone else hear about the guy who discovered the Captcha for blizzard's login a few days ago was:
b3t41nm4r
= beta in mar(ch)
Source claims Blizz doesn't usually use Captcha's that long and that they've done this kind of thing before.
[Source: http://www.starcraftwire.net/blog/comments/rumour-starcraft-ii-beta-in-march ] I'll admit I've never been in a beta for anything, but this one seems interesting. People say it'll get hacked, copied around so everyone can be playing it. Maybe I'll get a chance. My guess is Christmas 09 for Wings of Liberty to come out.
They also just put out a developer's kit or something. I looked through it. It was pretty neat, nothing groundbreaking though. The high-res. screenshots were the coolest part.
Sometimes I'll be leaving DH Hill in the evening and I'll glance down at some Asian dude's laptop and see SC running. Always amuses me! 1/29/2009 12:53:27 AM |
