Not from this guy anymore

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/420352.html

Quote :
"A biomedical research technician at Duke University is accused of supplying hundreds of fake IDs to college students with the aid of a computer stolen from the state Division of Motor Vehicles.

Wake ABC law enforcement officers arrested Robert Wayne Bullock, 23, Tuesday at his home in rural Orange County and charged him with selling false IDs. The officers found him in possession of the computer, which had been taken two years ago from the DMV office in Louisburg, said Lew Nuckles, chief of ABC law enforcement in Wake County.

Bullock provided the fake IDs mostly to N.C. State students, Nuckles said. It was one of the largest and most sophisticated fake ID operations Nuckles has seen in this area in quite some time, he said.

Nuckles said his department has been investigating Bullock's fake IDs for months, since officers started confiscating fake IDs -- mostly in the Hillsborough Street area near N.C. State -- that were nothing like they'd seen before, he said.

Usually, it's obvious an underage person has altered the date of birth on a fake ID, he said. But there were no signs of tampering on the IDs they were finding, he said.

The IDs were made with the date of birth and holograms found on real driver's licenses issued by the state, he said.

They were so well made that even his own team wasn't sure they were fake
, Nuckles said.

But when law enforcement checked the driver's license numbers, they turned out to belong to other drivers, he said.

After months of investigation and talking to dozens of people, the officers identified Bullock as the "top of the food chain" in the business, he said.

Over Thanksgiving, Nuckles' team went undercover and bought some fake IDs from Bullock, Nuckles said. Bullock’s fake IDs were sold for $150 to $170, Nuckles said.

In addition to the DMV computer, officers found at Bullock’s home 1,000 blank card stocks, rolls of color printing ribbon and full rolls of laminating paper with official state holograms, Nuckles said. Bullock also had a special cleaning kit needed to keep the DMV computer clean and operating, he said.

Bullock was released from the Wake County jail Tuesday afternoon on a $5,000 bond.

Nuckles said he expects to bring additional charges against Bullock of manufacturing fake IDs. In all, law enforcement confiscated five computers from Bullock, Nuckles said. Investigators won't know how many ID's he sold or to whom until after investigators analyze the computers, Nuckles said. "

i know a guy back home whose friend had a similar machine, but his didn't make a new id. He took an actual ID then with lasers erased your birth year and put in 87 or whatever. so it was actually like your ID.

but my biggest question is this.

Why the fuck would the people with the fake IDs pick the shitty hillsborough st. bars to go to?

Alright! I just got my new fake! Lets hit up farmhouse and Pi Bar!

that's the problem with doing illegal shit on a large scale. you can't trust anyone to not rat you out. not even your best friends.

i say keep it small scale.

He wasn't charging very much

And what a tard for using stolen equipment. You can buy the DMV's equipment on ebay for a few hundred (ok, more like a thousand) bucks.

also, every good criminal knows that between 10-20 percent of all illegal proceeds should go to a rainy day legal fund and bond account.

One of the kids that got busted probably helped the cops find him so that they wouldn't tell daddy.

I'm wondering how he stole all that stuff. Maybe he bribed a DMV employee to swipe it for him? I doubt you could just walk into a DMV office and walk out with a computer & printer.

I found the article regarding the original theft of the equipment from back in 2006.

http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/491642.html

Quote :
"
Computer, data stolen from DMV
A Louisburg driver's license office had personal information on thousands of motorists

The state Division of Motor Vehicles is notifying 16,000 motorists that someone broke into the agency's driver's license office in Louisburg and took a computer containing their personal information.

The computer was used to store information for driver's licenses issued over the past 18 months, between March 2005 and Sept. 10, according to the DMV. The information includes names, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers and, in some cases, immigration visa information, DMV officials said.

"The vast majority are residents of Franklin County since the DMV office is in that area," said spokeswoman Marge Howell. "But anyone can use that office, even people from Raleigh."

The motorist information is not easily accessible on the computer, and there is no evidence that it has been used, Howell said. But in letters going out this week, the DMV asks motorists to report any unusual activity that indicates someone is trying to use their information for financial fraud.

Thieves have taken equipment from other DMV offices before, but this is the first time the items contained sensitive information, Howell said.

The break-in occurred nearly two weeks ago. DMV officials think many of the drivers affected don't know about it yet.

"I had about 12 to 15 calls Tuesday and only a couple today," driver's license examiner Debra Allen said late Wednesday afternoon. "Once they get the letters, it may be a bigger response."

If motorists do notice anything suspicious, the DMV urges them to contact their local police or sheriff's office and the credit bureaus.

Police and the DMV are working with the State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Secret Service to retrieve the stolen equipment. The DMV is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

"Our primary concern is to get the instruments back and arrest the ones who perpetrated this act," said Louisburg police Detective Jason Abbott.

Abbott acknowledged the potential for financial fraud but said police think the thieves hoped to use the equipment to make counterfeit driver's licenses.

Howell said that it will not be easy to use high-tech equipment.

"The digital cameras are encrypted," Howell said. "That makes it harder for someone to take them and make counterfeit licenses."

Broken window

Police learned about the burglary on Sept. 10 when a cleaning crew reported the break-in. Police said that someone broke a window in front of the building in downtown Louisburg and took several computers and workstations. Allen said office workers spent the Monday after the break-in taping and boarding the broken window and cleaning up shattered glass both inside and outside the building.

The break-in does not appear to be the work of professional thieves, Abbott said.

The SBI obtained some evidence from the DMV office, but Abbott declined to say what it was.

Motorists with questions can call the DMV at (888) 495-5568 or 715-7000. Police are asking anyone with information about the break-in to call the Louisburg Police Department at 496-4175."

I had this idea 5 years ago, I just wasn't stupid enough to do it.

Our DMV back home had no security system, was in the middle of nowhere, and had doors you could basically shove open.

$150 to $170 each

I wonder how many were sold to college students who needed them to drink and how many were sold to illegal aliens who needed them to work.

true.... but fake name + fake address + fake number = nothing

then again some of them were stupid and probably charged it on daddy's cc or something equally ridiculous.... (i think it would be hilarious if he took cc's too)

It would be funny if all the pictures of all the kids he sold IDs to are stored on the hard drive. You know, kind of like how when you need a duplicate how they just mail it to you without you having to take another picture.
