Got dem 20's yo, and now I need to keep 'em clean-
What do you use to clean and shine chrome wheels?
I'm a complete noob with wheel cleaning stuff... basically the only cleaner ive used in the past 4-5 years is a bottle of DuPont teflon wheel cleaner. 12/18/2008 9:41:13 AM |

Eagle One used to be my fav wheel cleaner, in the black bottle, but Advance quit carrying it... there is a certian "taste" to good chrome cleaner. I dont mean like put the shit in your mouth (but its bound to get there anyhow at some point) but the way it stings in your eye, and the way it burns in a cut on your hands... tough to explain.
I spray the cleaner liberally on the cool wheel (never do it if the wheels are warm to the touch) and then take a soft car wash brush, rinse the brush out well with clean water shake out the excess, then spray some cleaner into the bristles of the brush. Then vigoriously scrub the wheel, trying to hit every angle with the tips of the brush rather than jamming the brush all over the place. Think if the wheel was a tooth and your job was to brush teeth all day. The chrome cleaners job is be the toothpaste, it foams up and lifts the dirt off the chrome. Then rinse well with clean water and dry any excess water from the wheel before it leaves a water spot. Going for a quick spin between rinsing and drying may help, or breaking out the leaf blower. When you are all done, consider some polish to help protect the chrome surface. At the very least some Nevr-dull style wadding polish should be used, but something like a brand name chrome/metal polish usually will leave behind a better layer of protection. Blue magic sells some that causes water to bead up like wax. Also there is a product called Wheel Wax that I believe is safe for chrome and works extremely well, has a lot of carnuba and wont melt like regular car wax will on a hot wheel. 12/18/2008 10:09:09 AM |
