Responding to hooksaw's 4 points:

1) I know what the bloody picture is. I suspect most people on here do. I also recognize JFK, Jr., Bobby Kennedy, and Jakie. The other kid, who didn't think to salute and who therefore didn't immediately get to be the actually icon in the iconic picture, I figure is Kennedy's, but I wouldn't know her name because she NEVER DID ANYTHING. At least JFK, Jr. saluted, had a magazine, and managed to kill himself.

There's plenty of other iconic images. There's the one with the Vietnamese guy blowing another's brains out in the middle of the street. Honestly, I'd call it the more important image, but I can't name either person in it and I sincerely doubt you can, either.

2) The Bush family got two Presidents out of having a massive, wealthy, and potentially corrupt family. Not to mention governorships and spots in Congress. Frankly, the only thing the Kennedy's have been better at is dying young.

3) It brings it to the fore of your consciousness. It's more than four decades separated from ours. Lincoln was far and away the more important president; I wonder how many people in major photographs with him you can name?

4) On the scale of current events, she ranks low, especially for North Carolinians. Of far more concern is the appointment to Barack Obama's seat, if only because it is surrounded by such deplorable corruption. We could all rest fairly comfortable in the idea that Hilary Clinton would be replaced by a Democrat. Whether or not it's some Johnny-come-lately political heir really doesn't concern me one bit.

So I ask you again: Why should I give two shits about Caroline Kennedy?
