I thought I'd tell TWW a story from the Appalachain Trail. It was only day 12 or so and we were coming up on Monson, Maine. After the 100 Mile Wilderness we were ready for a town! All day we sang songs about hamburgers and told each other tales of Monson, how the streets are paved with pizza and every day it rains bacon.

There's a hostel in town called Shaw's that serves a legendary breakfast at 7am. We were camped about 5 miles from the road and decided we would wake up at 3am to make it to the road in time for breakfast. We were still softies so 5 miles was a fair distance. Later on we would walk 10 miles to town before breakfast.

So we woke up in the dark, made it to the road at last and hitched a ride into Monson. Everyone was ravenously hungry because nobody had eaten in anticipation of the greasy treasures that awaited. To my great dismay, there was a long wait at Shaw's for breakfast. But they let us drink all the coffee we wanted while we were waiting. I drank seven cups.

This man is real famous for playing the harp down in the french quarter. i have seen him play once out of the 10 or so times i've been over there. I was lucky enough to run into him last night, but the only problem is that i think he has some mental issues, plus he's old.

When i saw him, he was moving his gear to the sidewalk, which took forever...he was slloooooooowww. Once he finally got settled in, he got on the phone for like an hour, but i never saw him talk...he only laughed real hard once in a while. I kind of doubt there was anyone on the other side. I left for about 30 minutes, came back and he was STILL on the phone, not talking. A cab showed up a few minutes later and took him away....bummer
