He really needs to work on his strength and conditioning. 3 different injuries in one season making him miss time is a bit much.
With that being said, I really hope he recovers and has a good baseball season, but I think Glennon should get a long look in the off-season and should get a lot of reps with the first squad with Wilson's track record. 12/29/2008 6:47:27 PM |

It's going to happen with his style. He doesn't have the Tebow build. He's more like Pat White (as I've said) who was good to miss 2-3 games a year... Next year we should have a more than competent backup with Glennon.12/29/2008 6:48:25 PM |

Yeah you can't condition around a concussion, those happen to everyone. But a hurt shoulder and a sprained knee also cost him time on the field as well. 12/29/2008 6:50:34 PM |

yes because you can condition to not get a hurt knee or shoulder. wtf are people like you smoking? are you just that fucking stupid or can you not control your emotions and deal with the fact that we lost a close game to a team that was very equal to ours.

You don't believe you can condition your legs and shoulders better to avoid injuries like that?? What exactly are you smoking there buddy? Yeah there are freak accidents, no doubt, but if half your team has knee injuries throughout 2-3 years, something is wrong.
I know why we lost, yeah it sucks, but come on, our strength and conditioning coaches are terrible. Look at all the injuries we've had this season and in the past few seasons, football and basketball included, especially knee-centered. 12/29/2008 7:00:30 PM |

I like to think that the ONLY reason we held Wilson out was to protect him from a more severe knee injury that would affect NEXT season, HOWEVER......... since that is almost 9!!!!!! months away I have no idea why we held him out, he was running out of the tunnel and bouncing around on the sidelines. I am not complaining cause it's not my style, BUT come on, its the END of the season, HOLD NOTHING BACK, we should have won this game...............I still think that Wilson, with Glennon and not Beck in the wings, will lead us to the ACC Championship game, and maybe an ACC Championship and Orange Bowl berth.......just saying..... 12/29/2008 8:07:47 PM |

name me the best conditioned team and i will point out knee injuries. did you ever play sports beyond elementary school? it is obvious to me you did not. conditioning is a huge part of any college program. if any thing guys are carrying more muscle weight on frames and legs that are not built for it. Wilson's injuries are far from a lack of conditioning. My wife is a PT and says you are a moron also. Average people whole play on the weekend get hurt from lack of conditioning not year round athletes.
name me the injuries the past seasons with bball and football that are from lack on conditioning. I can not think of a single one right now.12/29/2008 8:23:22 PM |

I actually played sports through high school(football and tennis) and never once sustained a knee injury of any sort for one reason or another. I understand having more weight than a frame can sustain can lead to injuries, but something tells me RW doesn't fit that mold with his size. I'll say this leg injury for RW came more from his bad decision-making and not sliding than any conditioning issues.
My comments might have been typed with a bitter-taste of loss in my mouth, but I don't think you'll find a team that has lost as many players in football and basketball as we have in the last year or 2 combined. Every team has injuries, but we seem to have become Injury-U with our long list of injured players. (our b-ball team currently has 2 out and 2 coming back from injury)
Oh and apparently the doctors recommended that Wilson not enter the game, he said he wanted to give it a go and see how it felt but TOB wouldn't allow him to after the doctor's recommendation. Wonder how much Schiano and Rutgers paid the doc, haha. 12/29/2008 10:24:28 PM |

Great move not to re-enter the game.
A knee sprain is not the same as a sprained ankle.
Why risk his collegiate (and possibly professional) career over a stupid bowl game that is played at 3 PM on a Monday.
The kid is straight balls at QB. Our team is straight dick.
When the rest of our team matures and starts playing at balls level, then it might be worth risking a moderate injury to win a game that means something. 12/29/2008 10:29:07 PM |

durability is also a nice attribute for a QB to have. We definitely should try to give a lot of snaps to glennon next year to hedge against any RW injuries.
I fully expect RW to miss as many games next year as he did this year. Just need a better backup plan than evans or beck. 12/30/2008 12:30:56 AM |

Wilson is a scrambling QB. State NEEDED him to scramble and make plays with his legs b/c frankly our offense sucks, especially the O-line. Wilson made slides where he could, but when diving head first can be the difference between 1st down and 4th down, any good football player is going to take one for the team and hope for the best.
Personally I find it laughable that anyone would suggest Wilson has at any point in the season been guilty of "bad decision-making." No player has been more important to the success of a team than Wilson was to State. With a patch-work O-line complete with two former D-line players, Wilson was forced to scramble constantly throughout the season just to keep the offense moving. I'm honestly very thankful he didn't get injured any earlier than he did. The dude has been taking shots left and right since he became the starter.
Instead of blaming Wilson for this so-called "bad decision-making," how about thanking the guy for putting the team on his back and leading them to State's 1st bowl appearance in 3 years? B/c that would make a whole lot more fucking sense 12/30/2008 12:34:21 AM |

On the play where he got injured, he didn't need to dive head first as he did. Sliding should be fundamental for any scrambling quarterbacks. Just like running backs, both learn really quickly to save their bodies if their tactical objectives have been met.
You are being an idiot because you are taking this as an all or nothing proposition. He can't slide in EVERY situation and still get the first down, but in the ones where he can, he needs to recognize that and make the smart move.
Getting those extra 3 yards that he got was not worth him being out of the fucking game. This is basic cost-benefit analysis. He has to learn it (and so do you, apparently). 12/30/2008 12:42:58 AM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
^Exactly. I am a huge RW supporter, but as a running QB he needs to learn some things and that was a bad-decision on his part. He has made a lot of great decisions, but that was a bad one plain and simple. If you need the extra yard then by all means dive and do what you can, but if you're 5-10 yards pass the first down, slide.
But it's in the past, RW will learn from this and hopefully next year he'll get a little better at sliding down field when necessary. He's good about throwing the ball away when nothing is open and running out of bounds near the sidelines, so he just needs to get the sliding down.
I'm a fan of what Wilson can do on the field and the great abilities he brings to this team, but he'll even admit that he should have slid on that play I'm sure. The future is bright, I'm just ready to have Glennon able to play to give us depth at obviously our most critical position. 12/30/2008 12:47:56 AM |

The term sprained knee always makes me spit up my coffee in the morning. Knees are not ankles. You can twist knees and mess up cartilage to the point where it will cause chronic problems that can't really be fixed. They should just use the word surgery when describing knee problems, because that is a better indicator of the severity caused by injury.

What? Who is comparing Glennon to Rivers?
The race for the job this year came down to Glennon, RW, and Evans....Glennon will play. He's not going to sit the whole year again. He is too talented. Why is it such a dumb idea to think Glennon will start? 12/30/2008 2:01:54 AM |

i could be wrong but i dont see any reason to start glennon at the beginning of the year. if you have a GOOD QB returning with a year of experience, unless glennon just blows him away by a mile somehow in camp Wilson gets the nod to start the season since he is a proven winner.
otherwise it is just silly to bench a solid returning QB simply because Glennon was supposed to be our star, even if he looks as good or slightly better in camp, wilson has the proven game experience and not just "look at what i can do in practice" going for him. after the beginning of the season i have no idea how things will pan out and i am sure glennon will get some snaps.

Because in order to think this you'd have to think that we're gonna bench RW after the amazing year he just had. Or maybe you've just never actually seen a football game and think that we can start two QBs.
