So im messing around with my Active Directory setup. Added a new DC, and it can talk to stuff, but stuff cant talk to it. Its a win 2k3 box. Somewhere in doing RAS, I believe I disabled the firewall (its behind a hardware one so no worries). I am unable to ping it and am at a loss to whats blocking all inbound requests. Any ideas?

check in network connections to see if your connection is using the windows firewall

without looking at the machine i can't really think of much - RAS does tend to completely mess things up if you don't configure it properly and if you let it, it will take over your network, lol

stick wireshark on there and use the pcap driver to grab frames from that interface, make sure you're actually receiving the packets in question

Ive had RAS on this box before with no issues. Right now its just installed, no config. Definatly no firewall via network connections. Im wondering if when i put on dcpromo, if it flipped something in group policy and turned it on there. Normally though Remote Desktop will signal for ports to be opened, and Id think dcpromo would as well for its stuff.

The saga continues...

dcpromo wouldn't have completed successfully if it couldn't receive incoming connections

run dcdiag and netdiag
