I'm going to guess that you have Vista. Here is my solution.

it would help if you could tell us the exact error message you're getting

on second thought, you could have probably helped yourself with a 5 second google search.

http://paulstamatiou.com/2007/02/09/how-to-quickie-vista-permissions was the first result for "change file permissions vista"

windows permissions = fail
windows file sharing = fail

it's no better in XP than vista.

no, you did not give us enough information to solve your problem. there's a big difference.

we had it correct. if creating a new user account and moving the files worked, it was almost certainly a permissions issue.

stick a mechanically failing hard drive in the freezer
sometimes you can suck a little more life out of it

in this case, there was nothing physically wrong with his hard drive

dnl should stay out of tech talk

no, the freezer trick works sometimes.

i had a drive fail in my laptop about two years ago. I woke up to the sound of grinding platters. I put the drive in a bag and put it in the freezer for about 4 hours, and had enough time to back up my most important stuff to an external HD before it failed for good.

why does it work? *shrug*

edit: oh, word. well, silly evan
