Peter Berg (below) is going to be directing Dune for Paramount Pictures. Said to be released in 2010. Berg directed/produced Hancock, The Kingdom, and Friday Night Lights, and has starred in a few movies/tv shows.

But enough about him. Let's discuss who YOU think should star in the movie.

This is going to go well.

If David Lynch can't do it, Peter Berg has no chance.

So much of the book is internal thought and backstory it would be hard to make it box office successful.

I won't get my hopes up.
The Sci-Fi Channel version was decent (6 hours). The Sci-Fi Children of Dune was great (Messiah + Children in 6 hours).
I really don't see how it can be done in 2-3 hours without leaving out way too much information.

me too, they are probably gonna have to make it 2 movies....

first ending with them right at the end of the invasion (it is kinda naturally split into 2 halves)

the other books, Messiah and Children of Dune could be worked out later.

i dont think god emperor would make a good movie...

Why make this film? The SciFi one was great.

Dune really isn't a movie you can sit and watch in 3 hrs.

The art of the book is in its subtle intrigue which would take an amazing cast and director to pull off.

thank you

while I won't go so far as to say it's "awesome", it is good, overall

and some of the scenes are ridiculously beautiful and well done

works of art

some of the novels his son wrote would be pretty good as movies. I thoroughly enjoyed all the house books and the butlerian jihad ones.

What are YOU talking about? David Lynch has said himself that Dune was a foolish undertaking. I enjoy that version for what it is, a good companion to the book, but not the full Dune. There will never be a version which satisfies everyone, that you could call a movie.

the real issue i see here is the 2010 release date

unless PETER BERG has spent a few years working on a dune movie on the off-chance he'd get to adapt it...

I thought Dune Messiah was one of the better books in the series. I'm reading Heretics right now...and it's a little dry for me.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. It is the little death that brings total obliteration.

the Lynch version wasn't bad but the entire movie making process was a shitfest. Lynch said himself he wasn't given the freedom he wanted. the effects were pretty cheesy overall but it was like 1981 or something

I loved the sci-fi miniseries.

maybe this will be good. I have hopes.

Sci-Fi version was campy as hell. The David Lynch version was much better. If you are going to make a 2-3 hour movie from Dune, you have to make a movie in the spirit of the book not a direct translation from print to screen.

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP RE-MAKING OLD MOVIES THAT WERE ACTUALLY GOOD?

YOURS WON'T BE AS GOOD, YOU DOUCHE. STOP TRYING.

Bitches should re-make old movies that were shitty but with a good concept.

A couple of things:

1) The David Lynch movie was not good.

2) If you really appreciate Dune, then avoid the aborted fetus sold by Herbert's son. That entire ominus story arc is such unbelievable ass that it makes a mockery of the entire series.

no only the action scenes will have any entertainment value whatsoever.
