I'm excited about the seeing this movie back on the big screen with updated effects, but not excited about a Jason that can run.

I don't think it is actually a remake of the original, just another Jason movie.

Well the original Jason I don't think he ever had to run after anyone, he just knew where to go or was always in the right spot for the kill. In the later movies he ran but I think it takes away from the lore of Jason.

His mom isnt undead, so I dont see why she cant run, unless her costume use to be too heavy for her heh. 1/14/2009 4:19:51 PM |

I read the Wikipedia entry on the movie. It's not a "remake" of the first movie -- more a retelling that will incorporate elements of the story from the first four movies.
Apparently.
I've never really seen much of the series. 1/14/2009 4:21:07 PM |

Right, from what I'm seeing it's the first 3 movies in one. I believe they kinda skip Jason's mom and get more into when he comes up from the lake to resume the killings. 1/14/2009 4:23:14 PM |

I was curious too, since the first bad guy was actually jason's mom, since she thought he was dead and blamed the camp.
Turned out Jason was alive until later - then he was killed - then he became undead when lightning struck his grave in like the 4th movie, while some guys were trying to dig him up. 1/14/2009 4:29:35 PM |

Hmm, didn't know that, I thought he was always undead. Didn't he drown as a kid? 1/14/2009 4:48:26 PM |

Yea I was under the impression he died as a kid in the lake. But then again its just an 80s slasher series, so who cares about plot holes? Don't get me started on halloween hah. 1/14/2009 6:36:43 PM |

Plus, "Jason" didnt get the mask until the third movie. So, with all of these inconsistencies from the original, we have to assume that it isnt a "remake." Maybe it's just a collaboration of the many faces of Jason throughout the series. I do like how they kept the same music, at least in the trailer. Bumbumbum Ahahah ChiChiChi. 1/14/2009 6:43:00 PM |

He did die as a kid in the lake. That's why, when he emerges from the water at the end of part 1, he's all deformed and has rotting flesh hanging off his face... only it was a dream, iirc.
In part two, they completely change the story.
Here's the wiki entry where they discuss how his death as a boy was retconned in part 2.

a little back story on making the original theme from composer, harry manfredini
Quote : | "This was a film in which the killer was in the film from the very start, but never seen. So it was imperative for me to create something so that when the camera was used in a point of view of the killer, the viewer could know when the camera was the killer’s POV, and not just the regular camera shot. So, when I got to end of the film, and I saw that close up of Betsy Palmers mouth where she says… “kill her mommy.. kill her mommy”… and it moved from her voice to Jason’s voice, I knew that she was a person who heard voices… in her head. I was also studying a composer named Penderecki at the time, and heard some choral works where consonants where pronounced in a very dramatic way. I then added the two strange bedfellows together and took the first letters of kill… KI… and the first two of Mommy … MA… and went to a microphone and said those sounds. And then echoplexed it.. And it came out.. ki ki ki ki.. ma ma ma ma.. and the rest is, as they say, history…" |

i fucking love the first one. probably seen it 20 times or so
i am really tired of this format, though.
bunch of really good-looking kids riding out to somewhere desolate to act like assholes, fuck a lot, and be incomprehensible idiots (ie, latest Tex Chainsaw Massacre, Freddy vs Jason, etc), until the slaughtering begins. boring as all hell, predictable as FUCK.
that said, I'll totally see this. <3 Jason.
I am curious to see how he acquires the mask so quickly in this one. I think he didn't get it until part 3 in the original series.

yeah, in part 3 there was this fat prankster guy that had that mask and was trying to scare people with it by acting like a homicidal maniac. Then Jason got it and everyone just thought he was the prankster but really he was an actual homicidal maniac. I think the prankster end up getting a harpoon to the eye.

I just saw "His name was Jason", the Friday the 13th documentary. It was pretty good with appearances from cast and crew of all the Friday the 13 movies including the new one. Their was an idea of a Friday the 13th movie featuring the survivors of the movies (Alice from 1, Ginny from 2, Chris from 3, etc) being reunited and once again confront Jason. I would like to see that happen. 2/8/2009 8:41:27 PM |

typical Michael Bay shit. just like Chainsaw Massacre remake.
a batch of dashing abercrombie/urban outfitters-clad kids set out to find a huge amount of pot to sell, and subsequently die along the way in horrific ways.

Despite some of the stupid teenage sex and drugs crap, I actually liked it. I never really cared much for Michael Bay but he did pretty good job with it.
For those who saw it, their is a wheel chair in Jason's "underground tunnel". That was Mark, the handicap guy's wheelchair from Part 2. 2/14/2009 9:40:54 AM |

we saw this at MV on friday night. the couple rows behind us were full of barely-legals who had to joke through the whole movie. sometimes i wanted to smack them, but sometimes it was amusing. at one point the entire theater erupted into screaming followed by cheering, and that was actually pretty fucking hilarious.
my recommendation is to not sit any closer than halfway from the screen. the "michael bay shake" makes it hard to follow some of the action/kills at times.
overall opinion- lots of fun, lots of "tribute kills," and an appreciated lack of obscene, unnecessary gore. they definitely made jason a lot cooler to watch.

this movie is proof that you don't need a good movie to have a good time AT the movies.
MV on friday night was outstanding.
reminds me of similar experiences I've had at that theater for Jackass: The Movie, the Simpsons Movie, Old School, the Rundown, the Star Wars remakes ...

8.5? Now I have to go watch the fucking movie just to know how you get half a kill. Man, these re-makes keep throwing off my kill lists. As of Freddy vs. Jason, Jason's broken the 150-mark, depending on whether you count the extra kids on the boat in part 8, or whether you count part 5 as him or not (also giving no credit for 1, of course). Any way you look at it, he's got almost twice Michael's count, and four - five times Freddy's, and they've all had about the same number of movies. 2/26/2009 5:39:19 AM |
