what you want for a salary. I'm always afraid I'll either sell myself short or be asking for way too much

^ Just because I know what the average is doesn't mean the employer isn't a cheapskate who wants to pay less

^^ I guess sell short since that might at least get you into the interview room.

selling short doesn't get you into the interview room

selling short makes them think you're not even worth that much

caveat - unless they're just looking for the cheapest hire possible
and if thats the case - why the fuck would you want to work there?

I guess it depends how short. If I had one candidate saying they wanted $40,000, another saying $35,000, and another saying $50,000, and I had a budget of around $40,000, I'd give the interview to the first two guys.

Now if you're selling yourself for $10,000 or something, that's a different story

so i guess the quality of the 50,000 applicant isn't even in question here?

you're not willing to negotiate with the candidate or with upper management for more budget?

Just list the range that you want and add that it's negotiable. And don't forget to negotiate things other than salary--like your work environment and so on.

^^^ I dated a loser. There's a reason we don't date anymore lol.

^^ Good point. My friend recently got a job that completely dicked her on the benefits because she was too retarded to read into them. She just looked at the salary they offered

^^ Ah, you've pinpointed the problem.

^ Yes, also things like an office instead of a cubicle or an office with a window and so on can make your work life better.

this girl doesn't even know how to research what salary she should request and you're talking to her about offices/windows?

Proofreading is an important part of any job search, too, douche bag. SPELLING DOESN'T MATTER!!!1

And nothing you posted in the thread at issue rose to the level of requiring a rebuttal. I just got tired of the fucking twentysomething circle jerk, hyenas yipping at one another's turds.

I shall now bow out--once again--lest this thread devolve into yet another shitfest of hooksaw derangement syndrome.

^At first I was gonna tell someone that they were overusing "[sic]" almost as much as hooksaw...
then I looked at who was posting.

How about you take your butthurt and anger back to the millenials thread, that's an idea.

as a general rule of thumb, i look for a 25% increase in pay when i change jobs, if not, i stick with what i have

25%, really? i assume you must have been with these companies for a while then. i can understand 25% after 5 years at one place but 25% after 1 or 2, i would find that hard to believe.

lol, I have no idea how you could reach that conclusion from a tdub thread in chit chat. That's cool that you stalk me and know how I do job hunts enough to make the conclusion though

Putting [sic] after everything is such a passive aggressive bitch ass way to call somebody out for something. Grow a pair of balls and quit being an asshole on the internet.

Ask for 11 trillion.

Just in case you have to pay off the national debt at some point.

if you ask for more, they might unconsciously think you're worth more.
