Who has taken one? For how long did you take it? Tell me about your experience.

I did.

I vowed never to talk directly to BridgetSPK for a few years. It's going pretty well, I think.

Well, if you're employed it's damn near impossible.

I've done it before, it's a very interesting experience. I've done a weekend on a couple of occasions. When I've lived alone I've gone about a week in semi-silence (with the exception of work).

Oh yes, when it gets to that point where you don't want to talk to them just fucking cut them off. It feels great. Once I commit to it I never turn back, fuck you later.

I wouldn't do anything temporary. If I need to stop talking to someone about anything then it's pretty serious and calls for the ultimate punishment

RID OF THEM

This vow of silence is not talking to anyone at all, not just specific people.

semi-epic lulz

only kiwi could hijack a thread with sheer stupidity/ignorance, or at least she's the best at it...

Am I the only person who thinks that "not talking to anyone" is the worst form of protest in the entire world?

(HEY, I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU'RE DOING)"...."

AHA, I assumed Kiwi was trolling...turns out it was "selective reading" that included not understanding the basic definition of "vow of silence."

Anyway, AstralEngine, I'm really not interested in protesting anything. I just need to think, not speak.

I wanna hear more about other folks and their experiences. I'll keep bttting this thread.

Then just don't talk

Why turn it into a vow? You're better off taking a tent to the mountains for a weekend.

What is the point of your vow of silence? If the whole goal is introspection, silence is less important than solitude.

Usually, a vow of silence would go along with some burden of work, or a task, which was meant to challenge your vow of silence. Just being silent while going about your daily activities doesn't quite do it.

^^The whole goal isn't just introspection, I guess. I'm interested in talking less overall. Not gossiping. Saving my words for when they matter. Thinking more.

And I don't wanna just do it for the weekend--I've done that many times. I wanna try for a month or more. You know, just as an exercise to see if I can do it, and if I succeed, see what happens, how it makes me feel. There might be some valuable benefits, I think.

Has anybody tried this for a somewhat long period of time?

BridgetSPK, do you have a job or are you in school
i dont know how you could pull this off being involved with either or.

will you be caring a chalk board around your neck to communicate? sign language? FDT?

All my classes are on-line. I would be involved in some internet communication for those classes.

I also planned to respond to people's texts so as not to be rude.

But otherwise, nothing. No chalkboard. No TWW. No signing.

My biggest concern is neglecting my friends and family so I'd have to make up for words with actions, like waking up early and scraping the ice off my roomie's car, baking treats for people, and other little things like that.

This is the stupidest fucking thing ever. I mean what is the point? Besides to get attention.

Oh wait, I get it now.

I know a lot of girls and a handful of guys that need to do this for an indefinite period of time.

^,^^^This is what I want to hear. I wanna be unusually refreshed!

^^It's not for attention, dude. If I wanted attention, I'd just come here and talk about my smelly vag.

Anyway, I won't be speaking so I don't intend to like go out with friends and draw attention to that fact. Plus, most of my friends are busy professionals. They could easily go a month with just a few texts from me and not think a thing of it.

Anyway, I thought there would be more people who've tried it or at least be intrigued by the idea.
