eh song and tracks and parts arent always the same/interchangeable imo. tracks are sometimes inserted to get to certain parts of an overall long song:

ie between the buried and me's last album was basically one long 65 minute song if you listen to it straight through but it has track breaks to separate sections that kind of had their own theme but the music never stopped)

or sometimes tracks are added for silly procedural reasons:

ie the mars volta's "frances the mute" album is split up like crazy simply due to the fact that their label was going to only consider it an EP even though it was 77 minutes of music. That album only has 5 songs but 12 tracks due to contractual obligations. They just added tracks in the last song (which was a 32 minute song) to fulfill requirements

Heck even our last album had 5 tracks but only 3 songs as one of the songs had 3 separate movements but the song was written as one ~16 minute piece (i forget the exact length). But instead of having a 3 song album we made it 5 since we felt the 3 sections of the song were distinct enough to stand on their own

Dopesmoker < Holy Mountain < Volume One
Crimson < Crimson II >> All other edge of sanity.

seriously dopesmoker is without a doubt their worst album.
the first probably 11 minutes are up towards the top for my favorite sleep riffs / lyrics, but then after that it never does anything to keep your interest.

^I agree with both of those orderings. Crimson II is badass.

Also, I have no idea how I forgot

Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness

It's great.

I agree, but lemme share my motivation for this thread. I subscribe to eMusic.com, where you get 50 songs to download per month for your $15. I always end up getting 3 or 4 albums, and then I have a couple tracks left on my monthly quota and don't want to get part of an album and then have to wait another month to download the rest.

So really, I'm looking for suggestions of how I can get the most bang for my buck when whittling down the last song or two for the month.

That's the ridiculous thing about their business model--a 60-minute one-song album uses the same part of your allotment as if you downloaded a 30-second skit interlude.

Oh, and I just downloaded

Juno Reactor - Luciana

from them. I'm down to 1 song left for this month now, so I'll have to pick out someone's suggestion from here.

eMusic specializes in independent labels, so I bet they'd actually have a lot of the stuff you're into these days. You can search through the whole catalog without being logged in, so you can check it out; their interface is not as streamlined as it could be, but it's not usually too hard to find things.

I do like Boris, but I admit I haven't heard as much of their stuff as I'd like. I have the Altar album they did with Sunn O))) and some of their other collaborations with Merzbow, but I don't have any of their solo stuff. I'll have to check them out next time I have remainder songs, thanks for the recommendation.

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons.

I don't count the live cover songs on the album as they are just fillers.

yeah, most Daft Punk runs together. Id say Alive 2007, but it is just a recording of the concert sooo.

RON JARZOMBEK - SOLITARILY SPEAKING OF THEORHETICAL CONFINEMENT
NoFX - The Decline
Dream Theater - Six Degrees? when they play it live its one continuous thing.
its kind of like crimson II. its not ONE track but the entire album is ONE song.
