there's a lot of bands i'd like to see, but i don't know if this is enough to get me back on the farm this year. i'm sure it'll be a conflict nightmare too.

I don't want to get pinched for appreciating nature

^ there may be a slightly higher risk of getting caught since there were 70 arrests last year, but the odds are in your favor. i never saw a cop inside centeroo, and we had no problems in tent only. it's not nearly as bad as people like to make it out to be these days.

i can't believe they're doing another DVD after what happened with last year's. you had the opportunity to preorder one with your ticket just like 2009's, and they were supposed to be sent out in time for christmas. i just got mine last thursday. what really sucks is i paid for mine in december and still got it before people i know who ordered one last february. hopefully they'll avoid whatever it was that caused such a ridiculous delay.

usually i judge these festivals if it comes out to about $10-15 per band i would actually want to see so lets see, tickets are about $250 + 43fees = lets just round up to $300. there are not 30 bands i would get to see/want to see. Although Animal Collective, Of Montreal, Andrew Bird, and Grizzly Bear are all very hard to pass up.

when did the tickets get so high, i feel like i paid $120 a few years back. they really feel like the quality has doubled???

if only i had the big bucks.

but a lot of these acts are better suited for small clubs.

i can't imagine the bon iver performance translates well to a huge festival crowd.

i personally thought they were horribly suited for opening up for wilco at koka booth.

BUT, they will likely play on a small side stage, so it'd be more like a small club atmosphere. those are almost always my favorite performances at these sorts of festivals anyway

i don't know if it's that, but if you look at each year's lineup it keeps getting bigger and bigger. i would imagine some of the increase in costs comes from paying more bands to play, but i could be wrong about that.

i think it's more fair to judge festivals compared to how much tickets would cost for each band's individual show. even a lot of the smaller bands end up being around 20-30, or at least that's been my experience. i think i paid about that much for band of horses at lincoln theatre. bonnaroo is really a great deal, especially considering all the other stuff there is to do. then again, when there's a lot of bands you want to see, chances are you might only be able to catch half a set so you can go watch someone else for a bit. it is kind of pricey, but it was worth every penny to me.

i only went last year, but i saw some really ridiculous shit. part of the fun for me was sitting down for a little while in centeroo and just watching people go by. there are a lot of colorful characters to say the least. and the kanye thing was pretty atypical of what goes on at bonnaroo from what i understand. a lot of the recent critics of the festival love to cite that for why it has changed so much and that it sucks now. it really wasn't that cool. one of the things i liked a lot about bonnaroo was that there was really no negativity all weekend until that whole incident happened. my biggest regret was sticking with my friends who wanted to see kanye instead of going to see chali 2na and galactic's show. i was too exhausted to walk to the other side of centeroo and stand there, but from what i saw on the DVD it looked like it was a great performance. but if you're interested in going for any reason at all i'd highly recommend it. it's a lot of fun.

why is Coheed & Cambria on that list? not only will they be the worst band there, they are one of the worst bands of all time

otherwise, it's a pretty good lineup.. if they add a few more electronic artists/dj's i will probably go

^ yeah no kidding. i'm sure they just got coheed for diversity purposes. haven't they always been more of a warped tour kind of band? i'm sure more electronic artists/dj's will be added. i think they added tiesto a few weeks after the initial lineup came out last year.

tickets + food (whether you bring your own or buy there) + gas + "goodies" + alcohol + any other supplies you need like tents that you havent already bought

not worth it to me, like i said, it has just ballooned from $100 to $300 in less than a decade and yet the talent doesn't sound any bigger than the last couple of years. It was cheap for Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews and The Dead.

id rather they have lower priced talent and more of it and make it reasonable.

gah, this festival always has a few bands I enjoy seeing live, but most the bands I want to see are better in a smaller setting and the price is just ridiculous for the groups I want to see. After attending a handful of different types of festivals back, I have left underwhelmed every time, even when getting to see a lot of bands I really loved. I've decided that most festivals just arent that fun of an environment for me to see bands I like live in.

/shrug

oh and PS, I may not be a coheed fan myself but they are certainly not even the worst band in that lineup.

^ i think it'd be kind of hard to be underwhelmed by bonnaroo just because there's so much to do and see while you're there. then again, this is coming from someone who could've left the festival after my morning jacket's show and been completely satisfied.

yea i know they are adding into the cost the experience of all the other stuff there. i guess I was mainly referring to the music. Going to see a band I love at tremont or the cradle or something has always destroyed anything I've seen at a festival or other huge show, even being in a good spot. Whether it is subconscious or whatever else causes it thats just how its been for me.

actually the best show i ever seen was at Bonnaroo, My Morning Jacket right after Modest Mouse (i have the official setlist from the stage )

their hair is long and blowing in the wind which is picking up steadily as the sky is about to open up like never before

incredible

^ the best show i have ever seen was my morning jacket at bonnaroo last year. they started at midnight. it started raining shortly after. the harder they'd play, the harder it rained. they took a break for 10 or 15 minutes at 2am. the rain also took a break for 10 or 15 minutes at 2am. they came back out. the rain came back out. they continued to control the weather until 4am. it was the greatest thing i have ever experienced. i thought they deserved a headlining spot this year after that. maybe in 2010...
