hopefully not for a long time. i don't understand why so many people in our generation don't like letterman. you know conan idolizes letterman the same way letterman idolized johnny carson, right? i think conan is funny, but top to bottom letterman's show is just better in my opinion. letterman's segments maintain a good level of absurdity without seeming as juvenile as conan's. he's also a better interviewer than any of the other late night hosts. alan kalter is a better announcer than the guy on conan's show. conan also doesn't have the same kind of chemistry with max weinberg as paul shaffer does with letterman. and letterman just has that "i don't give a shit" attitude and makes cracks about his own show not being funny, which actually makes it funny. but yeah, leno sucks. craig ferguson is ok. i'm terrified of what jimmy kimmel is gonna do.

i hope Conan mixes up his act a bit when he moves to 11:30. His monolouge is so predictable every night.

first, he delivers every, single joke in the same fashion:
"you know, i heard blah blah blah today
.....
[pause, silence]
....
yeah, yeah [claps hands]
.....
[pause]
punchline"

and again, every single night he ends his monolouge with
"we have a great show tonight. [talks out the side of his mouth]not like every other night when we suck! not like anyone's watching anyway!"
the self-deprecating humor is fun, but he takes it too far.

^^ and let's not forget the totally random off base comments he makes about the audience which I have no idea why they laugh at

I like conan's show but leno has much better stand up ability

one night a few weeks ago alan kalter said in between commercials on the late show, "got any good ideas for the show? neither do we!"

it never really ends up being too much though. they use it sparingly enough for me.

^^ well to be fair to conan, leno has been doing stand up for 30+ years, while conan has never done stand up

conan would probably be the first to tell you that his monologue is the weakest part of his show

Letterman sucks because like Jon Stewart he became too much of a Bush basher and it got old. I know he made lots of jokes about Clinton too, but those were lighthearted and normally about his sexual escapades. We get it celebrities didn't like Bush it was the chic thing to do. Conan and Jay had their Bush jokes to but Letterman and Stewarts jokes were more venomous and far beyond the usual politcal satire. To me thats where I stopped watching Letterman. Maybe I will start watching Letterman again in about 6 months after Obama has had a chance to make some mistakes and people start to let the Bush Era go. (Although for Stewart, Maher, and Letterman it may be hard)

I don't know why conan just sticks to his clips like when he videotapes stuff with max and his announcer with the gay filipino or the guy who gives away free preparation H, the faces with mouths that move, the masturbating bear, etc. Not only that but his jokes are pretty funny.
Last night he does the joke what you teach your children, for michael phelps it was don't share your weed with someone who has the lung capacity of a dolphin. I guess everyones partial to someone and for me nothing beats conan.

^^^ Do you even know what satire means? It's not supposed to be lighthearted or evenhanded. It's supposed to skewer its target.

I like him because he's funny. I prefer his monlogue to Conan's because the jokes are delivered better. I also watch it because the monologue flows like a running conversation, as opposed to Conan's boring format, which agentlion described.

I am not a Bush fan, but I am not an Obama is our savior guy either. In all actuality I don't watch any late night show because I am normally in bed by the time they come on and if I am up I am usually watching Adult Swim. I don't need to see the Hollywood self-love fest. I get tired of the negativity of all the talk shows, parody news shows that some idiots take as real factual news, but you guys go ahead and watch those shows to each his own. I honestly don't care what you think but Letterman got to negative for me in his monologues and I never watched the Daily Show or Colbert Report

Conan gives the best interviews though.

Letterman, Stewart, and Colbert are all taped in New York...and before you try and argue semantics, there's a whole fucking world of difference between New York and Hollywood.

friday, feb. 20th

and i think it'd be perfect if conan had on drew barrymore and john goodman as his 2 guests since they were 2 of the 3 guests from his first show (tony randall, the 3rd, is dead)

OH SNAP

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b101432_conan_andy_back_together_tonight.html

Quote :
"The prodigal sidekick has returned.

Andy Richter will be playing McMahon to Conan O'Brien's Carson, as the former Late Night cohorts reteam when O'Brien takes the Tonight Show reins from Jay Leno this summer.

This time around, however, instead of serving as O'Brien's on-air wingman, Richter will take the role of full-service announcer. In addition to serving as Tonight's official voice, he will also regularly appear in comedy bits.

"Andy is one of the funniest people I know, and we've maintained a close friendship since he left Late Night," O'Brien said. "We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to The Tonight Show."

And one more thing...

"I'm looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300," O'Brien added.

Richter served as the final nonmusical guest on Late Night With Conan O'Brien when it signed off last Friday. No word was made at the time that he would be part of the Tonight Show's regime change.

The duo first teamed up back in 1993, when an untested—and, at least by the network, untrusted—O'Brien took over David Letterman's late-night show. Richter left in 2000 to pursue an acting career, more often than not backed by O'Brien. (The host produced Richter's most high-profile, ill-fated TV outings: 2007's Andy Barker, P.I. and 2002's Andy Richter Controls the Universe.)

While the Tonight Show gig is good news for Richter fans, it's bad news for Joel Goddard die-hards.

Though O'Brien paid tribute to the Late Night announcer on his final episode, singling him out for his contributions over the show's 16-year run, the Asian boy-toy-lover will apparently not be making the trip to Los Angeles.

Richter's confirmation sets into place the final rundown of on-air talent for the O'Brien-manned Tonight Show. O'Brien announced earlier this month that Max Weinberg and the Max Weinberg 7 will transfer over to become the Tonight Show house band.

O'Brien, Richter & Co. will make their Tonight Show debut on June 1."

i don't hate the man, I just don't think he is very funny. And more importantly, based on what I have seen of his career up until now, regardless of how funny anyone thinks he is he hasn't once showed me the type of personality or people skills required to be a talk show host. I will certainly check it out a few times at first regardless but my expectations are low.
