I love this show. It kicks the kind of ass which you could not imagine a cooking show could do.

It rocks so hard.

I <3 Alton Brown... I loved the show when it was set in Sweeney Todd mode, with him baking meat pies. Great stuff.

Yes! Great show! I learn so many awesome random things from that show.

The only thing I don't like is the stupid skits they do, mostly in the beginning.

^ Was the only one I did like.

Alton Brown is amazing. One of my friends gave me his book I'm Just Here for the Food for Christmas, and I've loved it.

Alton Brown is the man.

But I must also emphasize that his books are THE FUCKING HEAT. Seriously. For real.

I have personally made a smoker out of two clay pots.

I make a 7 minute perfectly cooked ribeye using my oven and a cast iron skillet on a weekly basis.

Alton Brown is one of only a handful of reasons I will even consider watching Food Network these days.

Although I haven't watched tv in forever. Is he still hosting Iron Chef America or whatever? He needs to quit that shit and do more Good Eats-oriented stuff.

yeah

on food network i also enjoy tyler's ultimate, but it doesn't come on enough

not the ones where he's going to a rest., but when he's cooking.

i've cooked a lot of his recipes, and damn.

i'm a sucker though and have gotten into that chopped show too

Good Eats is always my standard 8pm filler show when there's nothing good on the networks. He inspires me to cook more. I really enjoyed his Feasting on Asphalt miniseries too.

The only other show I enjoy on Food Network is Dinner Impossible, especially now that Chef Irvine is back (bless his heart, but Chief Symon just couldn't pull it off).

I made Alton Brown's Roasted Edamame Salad (from his Edamame episode) and it was super fabulous. I've grown to like the guy, even though the mole on the side of his face drives me bonkers.

I love most of the shows on FN anyways - 30 Minute Meals, Chopped, Ace of Cakes, URS, etc.

Same, Irvine has this weird addictive quality to him. The reason he had disappeared from the show in the first place was that he had "altered" his resume and the Food Network found out about it, so they fired him and stuck Symon in as host. That didn't pan out and they realized that Irvine was better suited so they hired him again.

I saw Alton Brown do a live show at the civic center back when he first released "I'm Just Here for the Food" in 2003. He even had a camcorder hookup and did the in-the-oven shots.. quite entertaining. He chat a good bit to everyone and signed all copies of his book that day, mine reads "May the food be with you!"

Good Eats has sucked the last few years, though. He even contradicts his earlier mantras.

i like the big talking puppet that he had on one of his episodes, but i'm google searching and can't find it. i haven't watched many Good Eats episodes so i'm not sure if the big puppet is a regular or if he was just for that one show. anyone know what i'm talking about?

I had heard that Food Network from the getgo really didn't plan to sack him for good. It was more a planned public punishment, let him contemplate his sins, and if he showed enough remorse (and he did), then they'd bring him back.

Its sad that he doctored his resume because even without doctoring, it was still damn impressive.

I kind of liked Symon, actually. But he didn't have the same quality of urgency that Irvine gets which is kind of entrhalling.

As to Good Eats, it's one of my favorite shows and has been for years. Alton Brown is unquestionably the man. Good Eats is actually the show that turned me into the food network junkie that I, unfortunately, have become.

Did anyone see Hittin' the Sauce episode? I remember he drained the juice from some meat he slow cooked in the oven and did something with the fat that separated once it cooled but I can't remember what he did with it

I'm assuming he saved it as stock for a future stew but I can't remember. And the episode guide on foodnetwork.com doesn't mention it.

Never mind. Found it. It was actually in the beef stew episode.

did you know you're supposed to do the meat on one kabob and the veggies on the other kabob, so that they both get cooked all the way?

Viva la Alton Brown!

So I tried his wings recipe, without the crazy homemade steamer, and they were by far the best wings I have ever ate. Steam ---> Bake ---> Toss. I use Texas Pete, the hotter version.

^^ Yeah I was thinking about doing that. Did you just steam them while they were piled up on each other? Seems like that would work fine.

I think another trick is not getting frozen wings. I did that a couple times this year and have had really bad results; the sauce won't stick to the wings and they are always super greasy. Last time I made wings I just got fresh wings and marinated them in BBQ sauce and grilled them and hot damn they were good, but I want to try the above method for when I'm too lazy to fire up the grill.

if you want a good steak

let it rest after cooking

To me they were better than grilled but I have always preferred them baked. The steam really does take off a lot of fat. Yeah we just did 2 batches and piled them on top of each other to steam and no, I would not recommend using frozen chicken wings.

Dude gets way too fucking close to the camera lens. I tune in to see softly lit food porn, not his ugly-ass head.

The skits are retarded.

The dialogue and teleprompter free delivery are excellent though.
