Encouraging. Good turnout, very little violence, and al-Sadr's Iraqi Islamic Council pretty much got routed and kicked to the curb. In fact, the Maliki-backed State Of Law party (largely secular, fairly moderate, willing to deal reasonably with the U.S., and anti-sectarian) was dominant--what I would call a landslide, at least for a multi-party system. 2/5/2009 1:33:22 PM |
