would you be willing to change an input shaft and counter shaft bearing in a civic transmission?

its already off the car and I have the parts.

i am not looking forward to it as I am not capable.... well i can follow directions so i guess i am capable but not very confident .

lol, you might as well rebuild the whole damn thing i you have to tear it down that far

and btw, you can use the old input shaft as a clutch alignment tool fyi

do you have any idea how cost prohibitive it is to rebuild a honda transmission with OEM honda parts?

just the ISB and CSB was 50$. The transmissions can be had in good condition for 200 or less.

I've done these bearings. My bet is that the input shaft bearing was pitted as fuck and the tranny was making all grades of noise in neutral and in gear while moving.

As to the countershaft bearing...I dunno why you'd fuck with that one. The input shaft bearing is the one that's the most failure prone.

Yes.... that is what pitted bearings sound like when rotated.

Why I thought I needed to replace a needle bearing (CSB)? I was just ordering the major bearings on both rotating assemblies. You're right it doesn't NEED to be replaced. Well I should reserve judgment until it is pulled apart.

Seems to me I remember it being an NTK or Koyo number that nobody has a cross reference for. I used to do this shit for a living, f00l.

Honda was the only buncha fuckers that had the thing.

if a bearing has ever been manufactured by anyone, motion can get it, this isnt your run of the mill parts place, they serve every industry under the sun worldwide

i have yet to come across anything at the mill, no matter how obscure, they couldn't have hot shotted in overnight

[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 10:02 PM. Reason : $50 for two bearings isn't bad by any means though, for a quality one, if it were $100+ however.....]

btw, try a 6305, and i believe that will be your bearing, it is the same as a delco alternator bearing btw, gotta go by specs

[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 10:07 PM. Reason : give me a good sales rep and i can locate anything]

[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 10:09 PM. Reason : skf also make a repair sleeve for that input shaft]

ISB bearing replaced. Countershaft bearing replaced. They both made pretty gross noises when rotated.

Ended up putting it back together and now have an extra bolt. This is going to be fun!

you may be familiar with this:
http://www.clubcivic.com/board/showthread.php?t=71070

but to be specific, I too have no earthly way to tell, save from putting the fucker in 5th gear, and rotating the input and comparing the output on a per revolution basis

.702 vs .750 on the 5th gear.... damn, that's going to be hard to tell via the hands-on method... probably can tell with 100revolutions

Ill find out when i put it on the car. I cant even tell if i got the thing back together right. I got at least 3 forward gears and reverse. That should be enough to get me to work!!!!
