I'm looking at buying a 2006 Infiniti G35 from a friend of a friend. The Carfax report has an accident listed in NY sometime in 2007. Apparently in NY they aren't required to keep a record of exactly what happened, but I do know the damage was in excess of $1000.

The person I'm looking at buying it from had it inspected by a mechanic in October prior to buying it herself and it checked out find structurally and mechanically. She told me I could have it looked at by a mechanic if I wanted to as well.

So my question: Should I buy a car that's been in an accident that is still under manufacturer warranty for another 25,000 miles if it's been checked out and fine. Should I have it looked at again by myself?

I owned a car that had been in an accident before. Never had any problems with beyond what you would expect from an older car.

Yeah, I just drove it today and looked at everything. It seemed to be fine. I just found out she had it inspected at the Infiniti Dealership, so it puts me at ease a little. I'll still have it looked at myself though.

inspected for what? Get it inspected yourself, and talk to the person inspecting it yourself.

anyone have any recommendations on where to get it looked at? (Preferably in Cary, but Raleigh wouldn't be terrible)

i typically take it to a body shop that has experience with those cars. they can typically look it over with a fine toothed comb and see what there is to see.

then to a mechanic who looks over everything else.
