So my aunt was telling me about ^ and just wanted to know if anyone here has had any experience with this service. I searched but didn't find anything, I thought that surely this must have been discussed on here somewhere.

Basically, you can get a weeks worth of food (for a family of 4) for $30, called the box. Then there are certain add-ons you can also buy, if you buy a box. For example this months $30 box consists of:

1.5 lb. Sirloin Strip Steaks (4 x 6 oz.)
2 lb. Tray Pack Chicken Breast
1 lb. Boneless Pork Chops
2 lb. Breaded Chicken Nuggets
28 oz. Salisbury Steak Entrée
12 oz. Sliced Bacon
1 lb. All-Meat Hot Dog
1 lb. Stir Fry (Broccoli, Red Peppers & Onions)
1 lb. Carrots
8 oz. Breakfast Cereal
32 oz. 2% Shelf Stable Milk
35 oz. Crinkle-Cut Fries
7.25 oz. Mac ‘n Cheese
1 lb. Rice
1 lb. Bean Soup Mix
Dozen Eggs
Dessert

then there are add-ons, which my aunt recommended:

FEBRUARY SPECIAL #2
4 lb. Steak Combo ($21.00)

2.5 lb. T-Bone Steaks (4 x 10 oz.)
1.5 lb. New York Strip Steaks (2 x 12 oz.)

Which turns out to be $5.25/lb. It's also suposedly very good quality accodring to her and:

Quote :
"The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe."

I thought I had heard of something like this and I was sure it was for people with financial problems but:

Quote :
"There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.

Everyone is encouraged to participate. Some churches even encourage participants to apply the money they saved to help someone else in need."

It also helps the "host site" (a church) as they get a % of the money. My aunt has had her hours cut (40%) so this has been a real help to her. They also don't push Jesus on you or hassle you to attend church (she's not the church going type).

My ex tried it twice. They randomly included some stuff that wasn't on the list too, like once there were two frozen name-brand panini sandwich things, and the other time there were potatoes and onions that I don't think were supposed to be in there. Maybe some other stuff. But I wouldn't recommend it. Everything is off-brand stuff you can get for 50 cents at crappy supermarkets. The "dessert" was some nasty cookies that I saw at Dollar Tree a week later. And he said the meat was gross and made him feel ill.
