So, I'm sure, like a few of you I use my phone as an alarm clock. This morning it went off as it always. But in my sleep I went over, turned it off, and brought it back to my bed. Like a half hour later I look out my window and think "man it's bright outside today". Sure enough, I over slept. Luckily I was not late for work.

This was the first time I can recall doing this. I think I am going to purchase a normal alarm clock today to make sure this does not happen again. You all ever shut off your alarm in your sleep and not realize it until it's to late?

Do this fairly often. It can be done with a regular alarm clock too...just easier to do it with my blackberry because all it takes is a small scroll down to "dismiss" instead of "snooze".

^I mistake it for an email and think I'm deleting it from my handheld when I'm really hitting dismiss.

i wake up an hour before my alarm and toss and turn in 10 minute intervals

then i get up just before it goes off

i'd say the alarm only wakes me up 1-2 times a month

I did it once when I had a test that morning. I was out drinking the night before and I guess I either just slept through my alarm or turned it off....yeah I don't go drinking the night before tests anymore.

I turn mine off in my sleep on the weekends. I have no memory of it going off either. Weekdays I'm fine. I just know my subconscious is going to screw up one of these days.

I have the opposite of this problem, I've left my phone on vibrate across the room before with the alarm set to go off, and it still woke me up.

The same shit happens to me pretty much ever morning

It is so frustrating because it doesn't matter when I go to bed, I'm always an hour shy of a good night's sleep and always tired

my wife got angry the other day b/c i've been working from home for the past few months with very few exceptions and i usually wake up without an alarm and work from bed until 10ish usually so she set her 2nd alarm to wake me up before 9 heh - yesterday i thought it was a mistake but it went off again today

^^^ If I had one of those things...

1: I would throw it out the window if it went off and started running around.
2: I would turn it off and just go back to sleep.

My freshman year, my roommate would snooze his alarm for 2 hours sometimes. Seriously -- alarm goes off, snooze. 7 minutes later, repeat. FOR 2 HOURS. It never made sense to me, because I was still in my stages of "alarm goes off, I get up".

Unfortunately, now I have that problem -- I'll snooze the alarm for 30+ minutes sometimes.

I also have the problem mentioned by the OP, so I literally set 3 alarms on my phone sometimes. Example: 7am, 7:05, and 7:15. Just to be sure.

Yeah the worst is completely not remembering you did it. The only reason I know I turned it off is because I woke up with my phone in my bed. There is no possible way I 'forgot to set it' because it is always on the charger in the same place every night. Good to hear this is common though.

This is why I have to place my alarm clock on the other side of the room. So I have to get up out of bed and walk across the room to turn it off.

my cell phone has three alarms. It is placed on my desk across my bedroom. I have one alarm clock on each side of the bed. Both of those have two alarms.

I'm a heavy sleeper.

I've taken to doing this. I set my phone with 2 alarms, the nightstand clock and one on the dresser. It's like a damned carnival with all the noise around 4AM in my bedroom.

And the wife keeps snoozing away.

Dammit.

i used to do two alarms on my phone, but my body is adjusting to waking up in the morning and getting better at going to sleep at night. cutting out naps and caffeine after lunch do wonders for my sleep cycle while ambien works to finish it off. i'm usually well rested if i didn't stay up too late, and lately one alarm will get me up often without snooze

Ditto. It's amazing how swiftly I can slide out of bed, float across the room without stepping on anything, turn off the alarm, and slip back under the covers considering I'm at about 4% mental capacity because I'm almost completely asleep.

I have turned my alarm completely off without realizing it. I hate when that happens!!! I never have a recollection of doing it so I always blame Ken.

I, too, am really good at mostly asleep-walking. My record for alarms is three--watch in my pillowcase, clock on my dresser, and phone set on its highest volume on my desk. I think it still took me about 30 minutes to get up.

I used to have this watch with an awesome alarm on it. It would start out really quiet then steadily increase in volume to a certain part that wasn't too loud. Then it would start a countdown timer (not physically counting numbers, but it kinda sounded like the end of Predator when the Predator activates the self destruct bomb). Once that timer hit the final beep, if you didn't do something it would unleash hell upon your ears.

Another good way to wake up is get some really crappy music like country or Nickelback or whatever and have that set to play on your stereo.

Luckily my cat is quite good at behaving at night. I don't know how, but she knows EXACTLY when my alarm is supposed to go off (even if the alarm is turned off) and if I am not up by that time she starts jumping all over me and making noises.

I always set two or three alarms, though the first one usually wakes me up

I put it across the room so I actually get up

I snooze mine for 1 hr.

It doesn't make sense, but i'm not really all that sensible just after I wake up either (i wonder things like "why aren't my cats talking" until I actually get up and start walking around, for example).

That and I do a more stupid variation of the continual snooze--I'll reset the damn thing for 10 or 15 minutes because snooze feels "too short", but sometimes forget to reset one or both after one round.
