So, I'm sure, like a few of you I use my phone as an alarm clock. This morning it went off as it always. But in my sleep I went over, turned it off, and brought it back to my bed. Like a half hour later I look out my window and think "man it's bright outside today". Sure enough, I over slept. Luckily I was not late for work. This was the first time I can recall doing this. I think I am going to purchase a normal alarm clock today to make sure this does not happen again. You all ever shut off your alarm in your sleep and not realize it until it's to late?

it's a favorite past time of mine
2/10/2009 8:55:10 AM
Do this fairly often. It can be done with a regular alarm clock too...just easier to do it with my blackberry because all it takes is a small scroll down to "dismiss" instead of "snooze".
2/10/2009 8:56:35 AM
^I mistake it for an email and think I'm deleting it from my handheld when I'm really hitting dismiss.
2/10/2009 8:59:27 AM
i'm bad about this. even putting the alarm across the room doesn't always work. i have to have 2 alarms.
2/10/2009 9:00:44 AM
i did this yesterday but I still made it into work on time.
2/10/2009 9:01:40 AM
i wake up an hour before my alarm and toss and turn in 10 minute intervalsthen i get up just before it goes off i'd say the alarm only wakes me up 1-2 times a month
2/10/2009 9:03:49 AM
this happens to me almost everyday
2/10/2009 9:09:15 AM
I did it once when I had a test that morning. I was out drinking the night before and I guess I either just slept through my alarm or turned it off....yeah I don't go drinking the night before tests anymore.
2/10/2009 9:09:50 AM
I turn mine off in my sleep on the weekends. I have no memory of it going off either. Weekdays I'm fine. I just know my subconscious is going to screw up one of these days.
2/10/2009 9:11:07 AM
I have the opposite of this problem, I've left my phone on vibrate across the room before with the alarm set to go off, and it still woke me up.
2/10/2009 9:11:09 AM
2/10/2009 9:13:12 AM
i did this almost every day my freshman year
2/10/2009 9:23:25 AM
I'm healthy and get plenty of sleep, so this never happens to me.
2/10/2009 9:24:44 AM
you need one of these:
2/10/2009 9:37:03 AM
I'd get up and turn that thing off, then climb back in bed
2/10/2009 9:39:38 AM
my wife got angry the other day b/c i've been working from home for the past few months with very few exceptions and i usually wake up without an alarm and work from bed until 10ish usually so she set her 2nd alarm to wake me up before 9 heh - yesterday i thought it was a mistake but it went off again today
2/10/2009 9:40:01 AM
^^^ If I had one of those things...1: I would throw it out the window if it went off and started running around.2: I would turn it off and just go back to sleep. My freshman year, my roommate would snooze his alarm for 2 hours sometimes. Seriously -- alarm goes off, snooze. 7 minutes later, repeat. FOR 2 HOURS. It never made sense to me, because I was still in my stages of "alarm goes off, I get up".Unfortunately, now I have that problem -- I'll snooze the alarm for 30+ minutes sometimes. I also have the problem mentioned by the OP, so I literally set 3 alarms on my phone sometimes. Example: 7am, 7:05, and 7:15. Just to be sure.[Edited on February 10, 2009 at 9:42 AM. Reason : ]

Yeah the worst is completely not remembering you did it. The only reason I know I turned it off is because I woke up with my phone in my bed. There is no possible way I 'forgot to set it' because it is always on the charger in the same place every night. Good to hear this is common though.
2/10/2009 9:56:34 AM
This is why I have to place my alarm clock on the other side of the room. So I have to get up out of bed and walk across the room to turn it off.
2/10/2009 10:03:35 AM
my cell phone has three alarms. It is placed on my desk across my bedroom. I have one alarm clock on each side of the bed. Both of those have two alarms.I'm a heavy sleeper.
2/10/2009 10:19:32 AM
i do it sometimes, i used to do it all the time in high school before i used my phone as an alarm.
2/10/2009 10:20:58 AM
I've taken to doing this. I set my phone with 2 alarms, the nightstand clock and one on the dresser. It's like a damned carnival with all the noise around 4AM in my bedroom. And the wife keeps snoozing away.Dammit.
2/10/2009 10:36:11 AM
i used to do two alarms on my phone, but my body is adjusting to waking up in the morning and getting better at going to sleep at night. cutting out naps and caffeine after lunch do wonders for my sleep cycle while ambien works to finish it off. i'm usually well rested if i didn't stay up too late, and lately one alarm will get me up often without snooze
2/10/2009 10:43:07 AM
i do this oftenand i snooze for a lot as well

I have turned my alarm completely off without realizing it. I hate when that happens!!! I never have a recollection of doing it so I always blame Ken.

i do it sometimes. i'll wake up and have no recollection of turning off the alarm.

I, too, am really good at mostly asleep-walking. My record for alarms is three--watch in my pillowcase, clock on my dresser, and phone set on its highest volume on my desk. I think it still took me about 30 minutes to get up.
2/10/2009 11:12:54 AM
I used to have this watch with an awesome alarm on it. It would start out really quiet then steadily increase in volume to a certain part that wasn't too loud. Then it would start a countdown timer (not physically counting numbers, but it kinda sounded like the end of Predator when the Predator activates the self destruct bomb). Once that timer hit the final beep, if you didn't do something it would unleash hell upon your ears.Another good way to wake up is get some really crappy music like country or Nickelback or whatever and have that set to play on your stereo.Luckily my cat is quite good at behaving at night. I don't know how, but she knows EXACTLY when my alarm is supposed to go off (even if the alarm is turned off) and if I am not up by that time she starts jumping all over me and making noises.

I always set two or three alarms, though the first one usually wakes me upI put it across the room so I actually get up
2/10/2009 1:00:05 PM
I always seem to wake up before my alarm, no matter when it's set for.I hate you people who actually sleep
2/10/2009 1:02:55 PM
freshman year, i thought it was a faulty alarm for awhile...i had to put it far enough away to where i actually had to get up from bed to turn it off
2/10/2009 1:04:30 PM
2/10/2009 1:37:50 PM
2/10/2009 2:28:51 PM
if I hit snooze, I won't hear my alarm for another hour or so, typically
2/10/2009 2:37:02 PM
I still shut off my alarm in my sleep even though I have a normal alarm clock.
2/10/2009 2:54:11 PM
2/10/2009 2:58:44 PM
happens to me a lot. i will even sleep while my alarm is blaring and wake up an hour into it... it shuts off after an hour and a half and i've slept through that tooive learned that i need 8-9 hours of sleep and when i try to get 4 my brain doesnt cooperate and just lets me sleep
2/10/2009 3:02:17 PM
I guess I should stop keeping you up so latemy bad wolfy
2/10/2009 3:04:46 PM
I've actually gotten fired as a result of this...fortunately it was a shitty weekend job that I didn't care about
2/10/2009 3:20:25 PM
2/10/2009 3:27:06 PM
this happens to me ALL THE TIME. I have started to just throw my phone to some random place on the floor when i get in bed so when i wake up i actually have to GET OUT OF BED to shut off the alarm. Works most of the time.
2/10/2009 3:34:50 PM
heh I started doing that too but then I just find the phone and go back to bed
2/10/2009 3:42:33 PM
when my alarm goes off i eventually wake up never been able to shut it off in my sleep but i sometimes incorporate it in my dream
