I didn't feel like mixing this with the USC game thread...

NC State
Sept. 3 South Carolina (ESPN)
Sept. 12 Murray State
Sept. 19 Gardner-Webb
Sept. 26 Pittsburgh
Oct. 3 at Wake Forest
Oct. 10 Duke
Oct. 17 at Boston College
Oct. 31 at Florida State
Nov. 7 Maryland
Nov. 14 Clemson
Nov. 21 at Virginia Tech
Nov. 28 North Carolina

first thing I notice...UNC is last game (good) and we don't leave the state until halfway through the season...

plus we have a bye week between 2 away games

In what world does having the Carolina game be the last game of the year and right after thanksgiving classify as (good)?

^^AKA Lee Fowler's world

Seriously though, Carolina as the last game IMO sucks for a few reasons:

1) I could see a scenario where we might be in contention for the ACC championship and just need to beat UNC to pull it off - giving them a shit ton of motivation. (maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but having a rivalry game that could go either way at the end of the season has hurt teams in the past...think West Virginia and Pittsburgh like 2 years ago - not that I expect us to be contending for a NC)
2) It could be hard to fill the student sections right after thanksgiving
3) Its probably gonna be cold as balls for tailgating

Only 4 road games but they will be tough. I think we can take the WFU and BC game. WFU is losing all their defensive talent. And BC is a debacle now. With most of TOB's recruits gone and their coaching woes, I think we'll win there.

USC - W
Murray St. - W
GW - W
Pitt - W
WFU - W
Duke - W
BC - W
FSU - L
UMD - L (we never beat Maryland, ever. )
Clempson - W
VT - L
UNC - W

9-3 (5-3)

And happy times are here again!

i doubt that it will be hard to fill up our student sections after thanksgiving for the unc, although i would prefer to not have a game that weekend. How do we end up with a thanksgiving game every year?

i have a bigger problem with the duke game being over fall break, we'll be lucky if 7/8 are filled for that game

i thought that each school got one request that basicaly had to be honored in regards to scheduling and it seems like we got screwed

^^i dont, thats what im saying, it seems like we didnt get a request, but to me the smart thing to do would be to have the unc on a non holiday weekend or at least the duke game on a non holiday weekend.

we have two home games that will be difficult for students, especially freshman living on campus, to go to, and theyre both against tobacco road teams

"Oh boo hoo. The Carolina game is on Thanksgiving weekend. I'll have to come back to campus a day early, boo hoo hoo."

GTFO of here with the whining. First everyone complains that we should play Carolina as our final game of the season. Now that that has happened we've got more complaints b/c the students will have to come back a day earlier than normal. We won't have any trouble filling up the student section for the Carolina game. If you really care about that game you will be there. Come cry to me when you are traveling to away games for a team that no one thinks is going to a bowl, spending hard earned money on tickets, gas/plane ticket, and a hotel room like I have these past couple of years. Take the free tickets and parking while you can, try to have a good time, and stop complaining about trivial shit. Some of you students won't realize how good you've got it until you've gone on and graduated.

Forced no. Unenjoyable yes, b/c we usually lost. The South Carolina game was miserable. To play well for 3 quarters then to just shit all over the bed in the 4th was a terrible feeling. It was very hot and humid. Seriously, huge ass bugs flying around the lights were falling from the sky b/c of the heat. The fact that I was surrounded by some of the biggest rednecks I've ever seen (think Gastonia) crowing like roosters didn't help. I seriously think a few of them were potentially missing a chromosome.

The BC game two years ago sucked ass. It just had to be like the hottest day of the past decade in Boston(99 degrees, bright sun, hot aluminum, and Harrison Beck make for an unpleasant day).

I'm not sure the smart thing to do would be putting the desires of the 1,000 or so freshman that go to games above the other 59,000 people that go to games.

I believe that is indeed our typical request to the ACC. No home games during the state fair.

Nobody in this thread has said anything like that Brass. I plan to be there (hell I'll be graduated and will probably have to drive @1000 miles that weekend to visit my family and go to the game), but it is a fact that the past two years we've had a terrible time filling in the student seats and everyone knows having the student seats empty doesn't make for a good home game atmosphere. Hopefully that won't happen with UNC coming to town, but having it thanksgiving weekend will definitely be a factor.

I can't believe that nobody has commented that we have two I-AA games. It's like we're not even trying to schedule a "real" game with the added 12th game. One of our 4 NC games should always be on the road, if we're going out and doing a decent home-and-home series, though at least we're doing that with South Carolina and Pitt. I hate playing all these pansy games.

If I had my way, here's how our 4 NC games would work each year:
I-AA game (guaranteed win, home payday)
I-A non-BCS school (playing a mid major at home)
Two BCS schools (1 opponent should be Top 25 from the previous year, 1 opponent should be away)

uhhh we wouldnt have to add a second DII team if ECUs bitchass wouldnt have pulled out of our game this year

I guess they got tired of getting their ass beat by us every year.

They pulled out pretty recently so we had to scramble to find a team to add

We were supposed to play ECU this year. They moved the game to 2010 sometime last fall. We added the 12th game against one of the two AA's.

Terry Holland got all apopleptic over it when it came out. I'm sure there's an old thread.

Holland wanted to move the game so Stat ewould play at ECU after their stadium renovation is finished (2010 season). Fowler said "fine", then later Fowler was doing a radio interview on 99.9 and said that ECU wanted to move the game back.

Terry Holland got all "Nu-uh, we'll play you guys 12 times a year every year!!!!" and started sending public memos out to Fowler and Baddour trying to schedule a 20 game alternating series with both schools, except most everyone realized that you don't schedule games through the sports department at the N&O.

and just how do you propose we ensure that 1 opponent is from the top 25 the previous year? It's not like these schedules are made a month after the previous season ends. all that they work out then is the actual dates.

i wasnt whining that the unc game is on thanksgiving, ive come back for every break game and dont have a problem with it

my point is that freshman who live on campus dont have a choice to stay for the game and alot of them wont drive back for the game, just look at the thanksgiving game the past 2 years, the student section wasnt full even after they gave the sez to nonstudents

however hopefully we will be somewhere around 8-3 heading into this game, along with the fact that it is unc and itll convince alot of the not so committed fans to stick around or come back
