Sheets is out for the first half, I might as well just DL him and pick some young kid out of spring training.
And yeah, I'm ok with Miggy at 3B at #6. Would have loved Utley, of course.
And I actually think I'll probably fnish in the bottom 25 percentile. I was just missing a lot of picks and getting pissed off.

you have a 21 man team w/ 7 pitchers...doesn't look like a typical league, so giving some dynamics of your league would help when evaluating it (on first glance, you have 3 players who are only eligible at 1b & have a big problem if you'll be counting on milledge & crisp to put up numbers for you in the outfield) 2/20/2009 12:25:08 AM |

I hate the 1B position. but I am a sucker.

i understand that, but it's not like any available player is notably better than miggy...i can understand questioning his pick had pujols or wright slipped to him, but they didn't
you guys aren't questioning his reasoning for taking konerko & crisp as opposed to young guys with upside or for him taking 2 relievers with his first 6 picks or for him taking delgado in the 7th round when he already had 2 guys eligible at 1b (not to even mention how i don't see delgado repeating his post-allstar break numbers from last season)
not meaning to sound like an ass, but it seems you're trying to nit-pick when there are much more glaring issues

I do regret taking two relievers, I always fall for that shit
as for the 3 1Bs that doesn't really factor I took miggy for 3B, leaving 2, and that there's a utility slot, so really it was just
1 1B 1 3B 1 DH
late picks: konerko/crisp I had to leave the draft and didn't have time to pre-rank everyone

I don't really think hamilton is a first round pick, at least not at 6. he's fairly overvalued right now.

I missed my draft tonight but I think I did pretty well.
Lineup is set weekly, not daily. 9 starting fielders + 1 pitching staff (instead of individual pitchers):
C: Joe Mauer 1b: Kevin Youkilis 2b: Rickie Weeks 3b: Chris Davis SS: Miguel Tejada OF: Brad Hawpe, Xavier Nady, Carlos Beltran Util: Jayson Worth Pitch: NY Mets
Bench: Paul Konerko, Joey Votto, Alexi Casilla, Chase Headley, Taylor Teagarden
I also had the Royals pitching staff on the bench, but since I would never start them over the Mets, I dropped them and picked up Daniel Murphy because I have a good feeling about him excelling this year (and the Mets just announced him as the everyday left fielder).
I'm thinking I should bench Chris Davis, play Youkilis at 3b, and play Votto or Konerko at 1b. Any thoughts? 2/23/2009 11:42:35 PM |

I don't know much about what the Rangers are doing this year. Is Teargarden starting? The Red Sox are rumored to want a trade for him if Veritek doesn't work out. He and Davis both might have good trade value mid-season but right now I'd rather have Konerko or Votto in. I just don't know which one.
I have another draft starting in less than 5 minutes...my position is 4th, A-Rod in the rankings.
Is he going to perform under the extra pressure this year? Or should I skip him and go down to Cabrera? Jose Reyes? (Reyes batting 3rd for the Mets...after Beltran and before Wright? should be an amazing seasonf or him)

I joined a yahoo league just to draft to get a feel for where guys are going, but I slept through it, so it autodrafted this shitpile:
C: Victor Martinez 1B: Garret Atkins 2B: Howie Kendrick 3B: Alex Rodriguez SS: JJ Hardy OF: Carlos Beltran OF: Carlos Quentin OF: Curtis Granderson Util: Shane Victorino BN: Carlos Guillen BN: Adam Lind BN: Delmon Young BN: Orlando Hudson BN: Adam LaRoche
SP: Yovani Gallardo SP: Edinson Volquez RP: Francisco Cordero RP: Joel Hanrahan P: Chris Young P: Matt Garza P: John Danks
I already dropped LaRoche for Edgar Renteria since Hardy will suck for 5/6 of the year, and dropped Lind for Chris Carpenter since I don't have any other pitchers. Trading Quentin for Cole Hamels strictly because I don't like Quentin, so I hope he was a fluke last year. Overall hitters are ok, pitching is pretty crappy/ 2/23/2009 11:59:38 PM |

he's hit a few deep balls in spring training and cactus/grapefruit games, so you'd think he'd hit more than the 2 HRs or whatever he hit last year after finally recovering from injury, but thats still kind of high for a catcher, even martin or mccann

slave, in regards to rollins that high, we became a keeper league this year. he was my best player from last year, so he became my #1 pick since he was my assigned keeper. all of those other guys, including the ones tree mentioned, were also keepers. i had the 4th pick because we set it up in order of finish last year, i was fourth, to give the two new teams to the league first pick in the second round, snaking.
i know i went a little early on v, but i'm a big fan of multiposition players and he screwed me last year, so i figure he owes me this year!

I'd say OF might need a little help, but I'd probably start Drew over Francoeur/Cameron until we know what Francoeur might do this year. RP definitely could use another one, although most leagues don't have any clear closers left, and we don't even know if Ziegler is going to close. Assuming that's a 12 team league it's probably ok, you don't have much speed either. 3/26/2009 7:44:02 AM |

Cabrera is exactly who you should have picked in that position. Sizemore would have also been an excellent pick but OF is stacked this year. 3rd base is a much thinner position. The quality of player really drops after about the 5th 3rd baseman taken. I'm not saying to draft somebody solely based on position although it's very important to keep that in mind.
Also, picking 2 top RP early in the draft isn't a smart move. Picking someone like Chad Qualls, Heath Bell, Jason Motte or Frank Francisco in the late rounds probably would have been better. There is always good relievers to be found in free agency sometime during the year. Top relievers only really help in one category, saves. Top RP usually also have a great ERA, WHIP and K/9 but don't pitch enough innings to put a big dent in those categories.
If I was you, I would try to trade one of your RPs for a speedy outfielder with a high AVG. You'll get plenty of HRs from delgado, Bay, Fielder and Cabrera so you should probably concentrate on SBs. Your first 4 picks were great (assuming this draft occured before Hamels arm troubles) even though Bay, Fielder and Cabrera put up similar stats. Picking Jose Lopez and Coco Crisp that late in the draft was also a great move.
BTW: That dude who picked Holliday in the 1st round is retarded.

You're too biased towards your Indians for one.
