the gas compression cylinder exploded, presumably due to shoddy construction or something. i hope snopes checks into this and finds out it's fake and someone shot an office chair with a 12 gauge for the pictures...otherwise i'm going to sit with my butt cheeks clenched from now on

Why would they make such chairs if they present a hazard? I thought it worked by hydrolyics. I don't buy this for a second. This would be all over the media as a safety concern.

Plenty of products have been made that are safety hazards, only to be exposed or recalled later. Exploding batteries, lead tainted toys, etc. I doubt many office chair pneumatic cylinders have exploded before and surely not killed anyone, but it's possible on the level of freak accidents. But I agree, due to the lack of legit media coverage I doubt this case is even real
