i'm not sure about insurance. its on a tier plan, i think the iphone is in a tier of its own (if its even covered) but i dont recall.

i text a lot, and don't have too many friends with an iphone or email capable phone so i had to go with the 1500.

no insurance, but you can get applecare and extend the warranty to 3 years

applecare is pretty damn good about replacing just about anything unless you obviously did something to the phone (screen shattered, etc)

i'm also not sure if you can get the FAN/corporate discounts if you have an iphone plan... i remember reading something about that...
