General tournament discussion and non-NC State games go here.
Wanted to go ahead and make this in case people wanted to discuss if they were going or not.

56th Annual
ACC Men's Basketball Tournament

March 12-15, 2009
Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Ga.

~The second game of a doubleheader will begin approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, but no earlier than the scheduled starting time.

Mainly wanted to go ahead and make this so I could bitch about how fucking stupid it is to have the game in the Georgia Dome. The majority of the seats SUCK. You can't see much of anything in a lot of those seats.

http://www.gadome.com/events/images/ACC-seating-code.jpg

Additionally, will SOMEONE please explain to me how the fuck Duke and UNC get the sideline seats on a yearly basis? I've been to all the tournaments since at least 98 or 99 excluding Tampa and UNC has got the sideline seats for the majority of those. Excluding the last visit to Greensboro I think..? NC State has constantly got the corner or endzone seats. Maybe this just seems worse than it actually is but Duke and UNC again have the better seats. I just want to know how they assign the sections.
I was going to go but the seating (our seats would be 23 rows up in the upper deck I think, the NC State section) is one of the reasons I'm not going.

And of course the ACC has decided to return to Georgia in 2012. 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 are currently all Greensboro with one year being a possible option to go anywhere else and granting the tournament to Greensboro in 2016.

The ACC tournament should never leave NC IMO. We are the most central location, have the best venues available and the most teams in close proximity to our main venues (Charlotte and Greensboro).

I almost hope we stay at the #10 slot instead of #8 or 9. We get a later game on Thursday and we matchup better with that side of the bracket.

theres a black dude here in Greensboro that i see every so often with a red crown victoria that has spinners and hydraulics.

he has seemingly permanently mounted 4 NCState flags to the windows as well as a wolfhead to the front hood of the car and a tail on the back.

i go nuts whenever i see him.

(thought that had a lot to do with the thread...)

dont be a fool... getting tickets through the ACC are a fortune. Get them from scalpers outside the Dome, they will be cheap, especially after day 1.

fuck Greensboro... any venue I can get drunk at my house, then ride a fucking train to go watch is the shit.

I've already got half-days off next Thursday and Friday. I imagine a lot of people will be putting in half a day too.

We'll probably play at 7 pm or 9:20 pm and lose in the first round.

No need to take a half day.

I don't care about whether we lose or not. It's just tradition to take a half-day, go home fix a sandwich and watch some great basketball.

I'll be there - taking thursday and friday off work to sit in the Dome, get drunk, and watch hours of basketball. i'm 10 rows back on mezzanine level, so not too terrible, but definitely disappointed that state got jacked with our sections.

went to 2 sessions of the Big East tourney in MSG last year and had seats 8 rows from the court - definitely gonna miss those seats next week!!

The Georgia Dome seems like one of the worst domes for basketball, and many that have been there for games have expressed those same sentiments. The Hoosier Dome was apparently one of the best domes for basketball and actually had some pretty good sightlines based on what many have said. I mean it was still a dome, but one of the best apparently. I've heard that the Alamodome is also decent, for a dome that is. Superdome supposedly sucks.

I hope there are a ton of empty seats when the Final Four is held in Detroit this year with that new configuration where they put the floor right in the middle of the dome.

What are the chances of there being an outdoor game in the future?

Let's play a game at the DBAP.

Football domes converted for basketball all look awkward. You always have people sitting in permanent seats that go past the removable seats, and the view of the court must suck from back there.

Play the national championship at the Rose Bowl if you're concerned about having enough seats, I say.

I want to see the title game played at good, historic venues. This year the regional finals should be:

East: The Palestra
South: Reynolds Coliseum
Midwest: Hank Iba Arena
West: Pauley Pavillion

Final Four at Hinkle Fieldhouse

greensboro coliseum is ugly nowdays. putrid teal seats, way too many seats for any event except the ACC tournament, bad location. i miss the GC before the renovation when they had actual ceiling tiles on the ceiling.

best old pic i could find:

So we can still win today and be the #10 seed right? And even if we win + VA tech + Maryland loss we don't win the tie breaker so we'd get the 9th seed? In that case I hope we win and end up with the 10th seed

Then again... If Duke beats unc-ch on Sunday unc-ch still gets the #1 seed? This is all confusing but I'd rather play duke on friday if we win on thursday...

Ok so Tony Haynes just said, if we win we are 9 seed, if we lose we are 10 seed.

lets just win today

and pray we win our first round game

whoever the fuck we play afterwards we'll worry about if we get there. And, I'd rather play UNC sooner in the tournament rather than later, anyway.

best I can foresee we would need to beat BC, Duke, Wake, and then UNC to win this thing

If the standings go UNC, Duke, Wake, etc.

we play the #7 team in the 7/10 game

the winner of that game plays the #2 team - ie Duke

the winner of the Duke game would play the winner of the #3 vs 6/11 (#3 likely Wake)

the winner of that game is in the finals likely vs #1 UNC

If Duke loses to UNC and Wake beats Clemson, then Wake is 2 seed.

Which would be great for us.

^so then you would swap the order we play Duke & wake in.. assuming the higher seed always wins

what to look for via SFN:

"State will be seeded 10th, and square off against Maryland unless VT wins tomorrow and the Terps lose later today. For the rest of the weekend, here’s what you should want as an NC State fan:

1) Maryland to beat Virginia. If the Cavs win, you are looking at 3 ACC teams projected to fall into the NIT (Maryland, Miami, Virginia Tech) ahead of NC State. Although there is no hard and fast rule, the only reason I saw for leaving Wake out of the NIT last year was that 3 ACC teams were already in the field.

2) UNC to beat Duke. From a “hoping for a miracle” matchup standpoint, we need to avoid UNC for as long as humanly possible. Perhaps someone else (I’m thinking FSU) can beat them for us.

3) Wake to beat Clemson. Coupled with a Duke loss, this would put the Deacs in the #2 slot, and Wake is by far NC State’s best possible Friday matchup.

Ah, good stuff.

I can't root for UNC though, even if it means we have to play them sooner in the ACCT.

^^ 1) maryland lost

I can never root for UNC

and... were prob not going to the NIT

Hypothetically, if we win 2 games in the ACCT, what are our chances... though I'm not banking on that one bit.

^if that's a serious question, there's no win requirement to get into the NIT. But I'd say right now we need a couple more wins.

[Edited on March 8, 2009 at 12:54 AM. Reason : actually probably like 3 wins, since we're in 10th..]
