Saw trailers for this on tv today, so it must be relatively near. I am interested to see if Depp can do anything new. I am very unexcited to see Bale do anything at all. I'm a sucker for a period piece though.

so American Gangster sucked? I never watched it but thought it might be good. I was hoping this would be a rebound from Miami Vice, which was unbelievably awful.

Good story, I would have liked to have seen more action. Also not very historically accurate.

are you serious? Do you actually know what you are talking about or are you just spewing nonsense? Here's a quote from the author of the book the movie was based on:
Quote :
"It was a genuinely eerie experience. Up and down the street, storefronts had been transformed to appear exactly as they had that night 75 years before. Even the Biograph's marquee had been reproduced in detail. Yes, I know it's just a movie, and I know most in the audience won't especially care that the details are historically accurate, but I can vividly remember looking around and smiling nevertheless, happy that, in this one small case at least, Hollywood was getting it right."

yeah, after doing some reading up, the movie was actually pretty accurate, and alluded to lots of other little things that most people probably wouldn't know unless they did some research, so i don't know what ^^ is refering to. but i still thought it sucked.

Was going to go see it, got warned off by friends. They too said it sucked. As some poster above said I'm a sucker for period pieces as well, I can wait for blu-ray tho.

I enjoyed depp and bale, but it was rather slow moving.

i liked it, but it did have some slow parts, and none of the characters were fleshed out very well except for dillinger. i bumped up my review to a friend because of how accurate it was, though they did take some liberties with the purvis character and the chronology of events with side characters to help tell the story. didnt bother me or anything...my biggest complaint was they never bothered explaining WHY dillinger was a folk hero at the time and WHY it was so important to hoover and the FBI that they catch these criminals. they sort of referenced it in the early court scene but coulda done a lot better. i felt this was one movie that shoulda been a bit longer.

well, it could've been the same length and replace some of the slower, unnecessary scenes with some sort of explanatory scenes. i dont know, it just felt like if i didnt already know why dillinger was treated as a hero/celebrity, i wouldnt have had any idea. and i never once got the feeling that this was the depression era.

Decent movie. Depp and Bale were good...liked the actress too. I tempered my expectations coming in though...the two other people I went with were pretty disappointed. Definitely feel like a lot more could have been done with it.

Dillinger died before Baby Face. /attacks on my seriousness

I don't give a damn about scenery, I like when the actual timeline is followed.

a couple other things i noticed...pretty boy floyd was rumored to have been involved in the dillinger/nelson co-heist, so he would've had to have been alive at the time of it if nothing else. and hollis shot floyd, not purvis.

^^ yes, a couple of events they showed happened out of order, but overall they did a very good job with all the details of the events, how they happened and what not

I read reviews that said that Depp was horribly miscast as he is nothing like the real Dillinger, and that the movie focused way too much on his affair with Billie Frechette (in reality, she was just another fling). It is cool that they filmed in so many of the actual locations that events happened...Ill still end up seeing this just for that and it being a period film.

i didnt know much about the characters, but it felt slow moving and not parituclarly exciting even during exciting times (escapes, robberies, etc).

well acted in my opinion but something was missing.

i think it was missing camera men.

felt like most of the movie was filmed by 5th graders or the actors themselves.

also, way too long. i wanted them all to die.

I liked it but i thought it could have been alot better. Felt the same way after i saw American Gangster too. I guess the gangster genre has been overplayed.

The best part had to be when Purvis went to pick up the new agents and I thought, "Holy crap, is that Don Frye?"
