I need a program to do simple pdf functions. Basically "print to pdf" and something that can combine mutiple documents into 1 pdf.

Do I REALLY need to spend $400+ to buy adobe professional or is there a substitute or "lite" package? Someone at work was telling me about an "adobe 999(??)" or basically a free version.

Word 2007 will "print to PDF" if that's what you're looking for.

Or there's always products out there like PDF Factory.

I think what you're thinking of is Pdf995, which looks like it is effectively free:
