Daughter was born an hour ago

But I won't get to see her for another 5-7 days

She has "massive black hair" as per the mother-in-law who just called me

And is very cute

TWW Life is a blog!

Haha, TWW is the FIRST person/thing/joeschmoe I have told. I haven't even told my parents or siblings. But that's partially because it is 2:30 am here and I don't want to wake up my parents. But I could and should call my siblings in the US and tell them.

Thanks for the congrats OmarBadu, qntmfred, and EMCE.

And yes, I know it will be difficult, but it will be totally worth it. I have been wanting to be a dad since I was like 15 or something.

And qntmfred, my daughter and yours are gonna duke it out after 3 years Haha, jk... or not!

^ Actually no, it was an accident!!! LOLOL!!!!111

why, you a masochist?

she is gonna be a pro bodybuilder and/or martial artist by that age.

there are easier and more immediate ways to get your ass kicked oh wait, delaying it for 18 years will give you more pleasure, you being a masochist and all

haha, we haven't decided the name yet, because she wasn't due for another 2 weeks i am not exactly sure what my wife is doing in the hospital right now with regards to that.

But most probably

Luciana Allegra mylastname-mywife'slastname (Loo-chiana, not Loo-ciana)

or maybe Alana instead of Allegra

Ha OmarBadu, in our case, it is going to be me who will be getting a bit crazy and wanting another one... not my wife

^^^, ^ thanks!

^^^ i will see what i can do... i am not comfortable posting pics of her on tww... but maybe that will change!

^^ you bet right... by the time she is 12, she would be doing calculus (hopefully), know the history of a large part of the world, be great at singing/art, be an accomplished swimmer/gymnast (thanks to my wife), as well as decent in many other sports, and hopefully have a black belt in some martial art.

oh, and i forgot, speak at least 5 or 6 languages fluently (my niece is 6.5 and speaks 4 langauges)

^ thanks!

nothing abnormal about Luciana (quite common in italy and spain). i mean, it is a derivative of lucy.

middle name Allegra, yes, not common, but we both like it, and it doesn't sound weird like some of the other names out there that keep popping up in the news/net (of famous people).

about hyphenated last name... well, we both feel that is the fairest thing to do, fair to the parents, fair to the child.

What if she marries someone with two last names and has children?

Should these children be lastname-lastname-lastname-lastname?

Where does it end?

And middle name can be dropped in documents.

That reduces it to 3 names (first name, and 2-part last name).

And in our case, because we come from such different backgrounds/langauges/cultures/ethnicities/continents/etc, we thought it even more important to have both last names.

you say shit like that and she'll end up dancing at denny's. and denny's doesn't have dancers.

for once i agree with vix, but i don't really like the way she posed the question.

and as for kiwi, YOU are the hilarious one, talking about some dude marrying you. he'd have to have the looks of rocky dennis and the eyes of ray charles

There are no laws for or against that, you know. So, if that happens, they can just make up whatever last name they want, by taking part of each and putting them together as one word, by choosing only 2 of them, whatever. They will decide. And I am sure they will not decide to have a 4-part last name for their child.

Why do you have to go to extremes, i.e., either not have a hyphenated last name, or have it for all succeeding generations? Can't it be used for just one generation?

khcadwal, I am sure most kids make friends on the sports teams

BigHitSunday, she has been swimming for the last 38 weeks

But, if you are asking about my wife: she did gymnastics from 11 till 17. She is an excellent swimmer and runner, and has a mild 6-pack, well, had. Also not bad at tennis and squash.

thanks to all those who said congrats!

Once a child has comprehension of age and basic arithmetic, teaching the basics of limits is very simple. My dad introduced me to limits when I was about 7, what you want to do is to compare their age to your age. When it gets to the point when they realize that they have increasing fractions of your age, they'll start to envision a logarithmic curve, and after you get to the smallest whole fraction of ½ and if they're led to saying 1 they should immediately realize the basic concepts of a limit.

It was mind shattering that after an infinite time, I would be the same age as my dad.
