I honestly think it's absurd that the sciences are broken up into "biology" "chemistry" "physics" etc.

yes, they all present different topics, but you have to understand all of them to make true sense of any of them.

let me clarify... i'm coming from an educational perspective... and how they are broken up to be taught. it is not the most efficient way to do it.

how else could it be taught that you would feel would be sufficient

photosynthesis for example... it requires chemistry, physics, and biology to master.

as it stands now, it is glazed over in all three courses without true understanding. A topic/project based course could go in depth for topics such as these and lead to true student mastery of a topic, having learned about it from the perspective of all the science fields.

i mean how would you organize this in the educational system, say for high school students

would it be something like Science I, Science II, Science III, Science IV? (or I-VIII if it's just a semester each) and which topics would come before others

i know you don't have all that thought out or anything, but I think the way it is taught now is about the best they can do. If all aspects of photosynthesis aren't known after a biology course, then whenever it would become more important to an individual, they could learn about it at that point in time

i dont think there's any way a majority of students could actually be taught everything about every science topic and be expected to remember (or LEARN) it... and i don't really think it's necessary

or are you talking about college-level

im assuming you're talking about college level? Otherwise I'll have to disagree with you. I feel like everything up through HS is supposed to touch a little bit on a lot of stuff instead of going in depth in select areas.

well to be fair maybe I had a skewed perspective not going to a public school because I learned quite a bit in high school. Yes I didn't get deep into any one subject but I felt like I had a good education. IE first year of college there was hardly anything I hadnt already covered most of in HS through chemistry, calc, english (heck english 101 was equivalent to my freshman HS English class probably) spanish etc.

^ the first year of college is a bunch of bullshit too because no one learns anythig in high school so they teach it again in college.

i didn't go to public school either. i didn't even go to high school.

maybe it depends on how you applied yourself, I dono. I mean I didnt come out of HS an expert in anything, thats for sure. But I feel like I got a well rounded education and learned quite a bit. The main thing that I would say I didnt get in school, which is pretty common in all schools public and private in the US, is a real solid understanding of a second language. Then again the one thing that hurts us on that as well is the fact that most of us never/hardly ever get to use the foreign language we learn in school as opposed to other countries in Europe etc.
