I know they're the same, more or less.

Earthlink's cable price is 41.95/mo (7 mbps) compared to 49.95 for TW.
They also have a promotion of 29.95/mo. for 6 mos.

Has anyone else done a switch like this? Does a tech still need to come to the house? My only reasoning would be to switch modems.

I honestly don't know about the tech needing to come out.. I do know they'd need to get you some software that they like to make you install for the login to earthlink or whatever. From what I've heard you don't need it though.

That's funny. I was looking the the pricing difference yesterday. If you make the switch, let us know how everything goes.

Yeah, trying to trim costs where I can. I need the high-speed for my consulting gig, but DSL isn't an option. I just got so pissed at TW, I'm having directv come on the 21st, so I'll be looking to get Earthlink going at that point.

I have roadrunner lite. It is fine. Seriously, who needs to use more than roadrunner lite anyway?

I don't download "backups" or "demos" so bittorrent is not an issue for me.

no tech, you don't switch modems, all you do is change the smtp address you're using for your mail

Sweet. So basically all I'll need to do is call up and tell them I have TW and want to switch to them? Awesome.

This switch is a nightmare. Be careful dealing with these people. What should be simple really isn't sometimes.

Yeah...got so pissed yesterday I almost LOL'd on the phone.

Time Warner has been equally as repulsive.

Well, I guess they're one in the same. At least when you call TWC, you get an american...sounding person.

What's been the problem?

Time Warner...basically.

I called to cancel my digi cable and keep RR until I had Earthlink switched, because that's what the Earthlink lady told me. TW canceled my whole account. So when I called to schedule the install the tech said, "You don't have an account, Earthlink or TW."

Big ol' WTF.

So I now find out from an Indian dude named "David" that I have to cut off Roadrunner before they can install Earthlink. So as of right now, I still have RR. It's just been one big cluster. On the other hand, DirecTV is leaps and bounds better than TWC.

Oh, OK. My mom has it, and it works great for webrowsing and watching YouTube and such, though I've never did anything that I would consider data intensive with it.

earthlink to RR and vice versa should be easy. I do it all the time whenever my promo rates run out. No one comes out to install anything, use the same modem.

I thought it should be easy...

What's your process?

I called and said, "I have Roadrunner and want to switch to Earthlink." They tell me they want to send a tech out...

wtf?
