No problem, however, when Iranian sponsored terrorist organization Hezbollah runs children programs teaching that Jews are, not just monkeys, but pigs. "Iranian TV show scrapped after child calls toy monkey Ahmadinejad live on air," from the Telegraph, March 11: An Iranian children's television show has been pulled after a child appearing on the programme called his pet monkey Ahmadinejad live on air. When the presenter of Amoo Pourang (Uncle Pourang), a programme watched by millions of Iranian children three times a week on state TV, asked the name of the toy the boy had been given as a reward for behaving himself, the child replied: "Well, my father calls him Ahmadinejad." The father's likely unease at his son's honesty was matched by the programme makers after the state broadcaster, IRIB, immediately responded by removing the show from viewing schedules, The Guardian reported. The popular show has been running for a very successful seven years but is now due to [be]screened for the final time next week, the paper added. Jahan News, a conservative website, said the decision was sparked by "the high financial and spiritual damage" caused by live broadcasts. Eluding to the naming of the monkey, the statement highlighted an incident in which "a child in a live telephone line compared its doll to one of the well-known authorities and managers"..." |

I'd be surprised if he still has it! Seems like the sort of country where higher-up politicians could still get away with semi-indiscriminate murder.3/14/2009 2:14:29 AM |

You have to admit, Ahmadinejad does look like a monkey. Its unfortunate that the simple innocence of a child led to such a reaction. Americans wouldn't stand for it if Sesame Street be pulled off the air just because of a political cutdown by a child. I wish the Iranian people could get back their freedom of speech (they did have it once) 3/14/2009 11:05:37 PM |

^^^^^ is that supposed to be serious, or is that supposed to be sarcasm?
^ whatever. the more stuff like that happens, the sooner the Iranian people will lose the last of their patience. Better for it to be things that don't ultimately matter too much (like TV shows). 3/14/2009 11:08:40 PM |

Well, having your show cancelled is better than what happened to the guy that threw his shoes at the President. He got three years in prison. 3/16/2009 8:17:23 PM |

The Iranian people were close to losing their patience pre-Bush. Bush set us back a long ways with Iran.3/16/2009 10:38:54 PM |

^^ There was a really good article a while back, I think in Newsweek, discussing that. It assigns pretty much equal blame to both sides--each made some really bumbling political moves. At the end of the day, though, we're the ones who are supposed to have our feces collocated--they're a back-asswards, 3rd-world, middle-eastern theocracy. 3/16/2009 11:50:28 PM |
