Woke up today, got online and only certain websites want to load right for me. TWW is one of just a few site that loads all the way...so I feel like I am in bizarro world

google loads and searches fine, but 99% of the links just hang up from there. The majority of the sites I try to go to I am just getting the page load error. I use wireless through my linksys router. I tried resetting both the router and the modem and I have tried connecting directly through ethernet to the modem and its the same result. Even went to the gym for 2 hours and left it all unplugged and its still doing the same thing now that I am back. AIM and MSN won't connect either.

I suppose my ISP could be having problems but I figured i'd toss this out here quick.

Oh and one other note, I can see on my modem that the receive light doesnt engage or flash at all when I am attempting to load the sites that arent coming up for me, while it is active while loading sites that actually are working for me. probably doesnt help but can't hurt to mention that I guess.

crisis averted...the intarwebz randomly started working for me again...just in time to hopefully get the stuff done I needed to get done today.

sigh, for the past 2 days since it worked long enough for me to get stuff done, my internet will work fine for 5 mins or so and then nothing will load and it just hangs on any link or any site I type in. If I close/kill my browser and reopen it things will work fine for a few minutes again and then nothing will load unless I close and reopen the browser...gets old doing that. I have restarted, reinstalled both my browsers (firefox and IE), and both the last two days unplugged my router and modem for awhile to get a new IP address to see if that was the problem.

havent had major problems with my internet since I first moved in here and the past few days have just been atrocious.

Only thing major I have done to my computer recently was cleaned out all my temporary files last week.

restarted the computer for something and now neither browser will pull up anything.

dusted off the old desktop to check its internet hooked up to the same router and this pulled up the internet no problem.

on the laptop, firefox and IE will open and just hang, both on wireless and connected via ethernet cable.

any ideas? ive also done AVG and Norton scans on my computer tonight for the first time in a long time just out of curiosity and found nothing.

if anyone has anything for me to try let me know..its obviously something in my laptop at this point since this old desktop is working fine, but I really need this laptop to work since it is my main computer and its just not going to work out for me to not have internet access on it...

Ive tried various things to test what is going on. AIM works fine, MSN wont sign in, mozilla hangs and wont pull up any page, IE 7 also just hangs and won't load anything.

I have tried opening my router try item up and I get the "stop running script, a script on this page is causing IE to run slowly..etc. etc.)

I pinged a few sites in the command prompt and saw no packet loss and it went and I also had no trouble pinging 127.0.0.1, BUT

I also just pinged my OWN IP address and the request just kept timing out. bad card?

If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it...I've attempted to be proactive instead of simply ask a question without providing any helpful details or actually attempt anything on my own.

Anything to check for besides my normal adaware and spybot scans and the AVG and norton scans I ran this week?

I am never really on suspicious sites (only pr0n entering this computer is via TWW :beatup, I don't DL random stuff very often...the last software I DL was AVG (after the problems) and before that an audio conversion program and I couldnt even tell you the last piece of software before that.

I am definitely open to the idea of malware being the source of the problem since I dont have any specific ideas at this point myself, but I would still be curious as to how it got on my system. A system restore wouldn't help at all would it?
