we should start letting various things nibble on the paraplegic and record the results

spider: they walk again

next up on the checklist - shark

I'm just curious. It's not every day that you encounter someone who is dating a paraplegic.

That didn't even raise an eyebrow. I get lots of special needs and adapted living info because of my kid.

I read an article a while back about a beekeeper with MS who says that the stings have helped his condition.

What is so difficult to grasp?

Para= 2

Quad= 4

This means he can use his hands but not his legs.

Oh, durr.

I just had a dumbdumb moment where I wondered if any paraplegics can use their legs, but not their hands.

He has a T3 spinal cord injury, T3 is about chest down.

He has no feelings from the chest down. Slight sensation below/around injury level. He can get an erection without pill but does not stay erect long enough for me. But we do have help from Mr. Viagra.

But everyone is always curious about that, and that's understandable. All I can say it's no different for me.

No it's cool. He's written about it on another msg board openly so I don't think it's a big deal. Everyone is generally curious.

I think for me, and I can't speak for him, but it kinda helps people to look at handicaps ( he hates that word) a different way. There's a whole bunch of stigmas and generalizations placed on them to begin with. So in a way, telling his story, educates people and maybe open up other people's mind that they're just like us, but they just do things differently.

When I started dating him, I had the same questions, same generalizations, that you or any one else on this msg board may have.

Long story short is:
He was a long for the ride with his friend to pick up some cocaine from who they thought was their "regular" drug dealer. Apparently, drug dealers swap phones all the time so they don't get caught. So this guy pretended to be him and told them to meet him at so and so.

He pulled out a gun on them and his friend who was driving smacked the gun out of his hand, and as they were driving away the guy retreived the gun from the ground and started shooting and their car.

It hit the back of my bf's seat and severed his T3.

We knew each other through friends and I actually met him like that.
When he came around I always thought, "wow he's gorgeous, too bad he in a..." you know that sort of thing, and that was that, we would say hey but nothing substantial when we were around other people.

Then we got to talking again, and I realized, you know what fuck it I'm not going to let this opportunity pass because of any preconceived notions that I or anyone else may have. So that was the beginning of our relationship.
