For those who have their own place or are looking forward to moving out on their own entirely, post some of the things you have been or were itching to change about your environment.1.) Smoking outdoors only, and not by the door where it can waft in2.) Only as much dishes, pieces of furniture, computers, and vehicles as necessary.3.) The TV does not qualify as background noise. Music and radio do. 4.) If you can rent/mortage it, you can afford to maintain it.5.) Pets need love. Be responsible.6.) I appreciate your concern for my well-being, but looking at my computer is way the fuck out of line. Just ask.7.) Shower schedule. We can do it on a dry-erase board if necessary. There's only but so much hot water to go around in some places and people have places to be.8.) Mind your alarm clock; if you plan on staying the night somewhere, don't keep it on.I'll add more as they come up.

in my house housework will be shared! i don't care if i have to cook. i like cooking. cooking together is a plus. but whoever cooks doesn't have to clean. or cleaning can be shared.same with laundry. shared. pretty much everything should be shared. not necessarily equally. but like, it shouldn't fall on one person to keep the house straight.

My bf and his roomies have a system set up where they alternate weeks for dishes, but they use way more than he does. :-/

oh i'm done with roommates haha i was talking about whenever i move in with a S.O.but yea, the roommate rules on cleaning never really ever worked out in my experiences. living alone ftw.

i do laundry.he takes out trash.i dust, b/c i hate the way he dusts.he vaccuums.i load dishwasher. (tetris!!)he unloads. (that's what she said)i have morning dog duty.he has evening dog duty.those are our only rules, and they get broken ALL the time and are not regularly enforced. we kinda live in anarchy...it's cool

That whole "I like to cook but if I cook I shouldn't have to clean" nonsense shouldn't fly. If you like to do something it's not a chore. Doing something you like to do should not exempt you from something you don't like to do, unless the person you're living with just really likes to clean the kitchen. If so you're a match made in heaven.

^^ i think it works out. i'm sure no one likes cooking for someone every single day of the year for 50 years. so i think it works. i was more talking about shared responsibilities. i'm not there to wait on someone hand and food. i mean luckily, i'd never marry someone that expected that.and there are guys that don't LIKE to clean the kitchen. but they'd prefer to have a meal fixed for them and will gladly clean or at least HELP clean the kitchen to get a yummy meal fixed for them.i really don't get the problem.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 3:13 PM.
