Ok, first off, I'm an M.E., but I'm thinking about doing this for grad school at NCSU:

As you can see there's one route through the program for MEs such as myself. The grad program director told me it was in my best interest to take ECE 305 after ECE 331 (which I'm in now and doing fine). I register friday and I realized that it's not a part of my major, so couldn't I take it credit-only?
Any ECEs know if this class will bend me over or if it's do-able for someone with only ECE 331. Any tips/advice is appreciated! 3/18/2009 2:03:15 AM |

Might want to audit ECE211 before 305 but I would think its doable. Ever had any classes with motors where they talk about how the motor takes electricity and changes to mechanical energy and vice versa with a generator? Thats all 305 is. also some transformers, but for that you just need basic ece skills which 211 does. 3/18/2009 8:18:11 AM |

if you're doing ok in 331 then you should be able to make it through 305. it's not an easy A, but it's relatively straight-forward. but, i don't think that's gonna help all that much w/ the MAE track and it's also not gonna help much with the ECE electives later on. those are probably gonna kick your ass 3/18/2009 4:21:56 PM |

^ Well I'm not going to have to take those ECE classes later. At least I shouldn't have to take any besides the first 2 required ones. That's what Baran said I'd need the class for: 592C,X. I'm doing MAE 421 and NE 419, so I can avoid any other ECEs. He told me it'd work. 3/18/2009 7:02:11 PM |

oh, i must've misread the requirements--yeah, i think you'll prolly be fine with that. haha, ne419 definitely won't be a problem

I think FREEDM has a lot of grant money from an NSF fund they just were awarded for alternative energy type research.....so if any research group has money to go around, its them. 3/31/2009 9:21:14 PM |

I sure hope so, I wanna talk to Baran this week, but I just got loaded w/ HW today, so we'll see if it happens. I hope they send some money my way. I have no problem being a TA or whatnot during grad school if I can go for free + a little extra texa$ 3/31/2009 11:00:45 PM |
