Quote :
"Florida State held a press conference on Wednesday, making public its appeal against an NCAA penalty demanding the program vacate any football victories achieved with academically ineligible players via its recent academic scandal. Things went well for the first half hour until school President T.K. Wetherell turned into a cartoon character with red eyes and steam coming out of his ears. The public was then witness to an administrator dropping four-letter words and a bizarre, sarcastic sabotage plot against Florida and Tim Tebow.

Unsolicited, Wetherell declared, "Now, we understand all the rest of it. We've heard [Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel writer Mike] Bianchi over there saying, well, hell, 31 wins don't count anyway because they were at some dips**t school."

Wetherell was referring to football coach Bobby Bowden's dubious 1-AA victories at Samford (previously Howard University) before arriving at Florida State. Things only got better from there.

Wetherell did apologize immediately after the statement to FSU's Vice President for University Relations, saying he "got wound up."

Florida State is clearly putting up a valiant effort to preserve the legacy and victory totals of aging coach Bobby Bowden. Unfortunately for them the NCAA's hard to budge and normally friendly in-state media have generally reacted in a manner challenging Florida State's efforts.

Trying to explain the NCAA's unusual logic where a party -- in this case Florida State -- that claims it doesn't know of wrongdoing still gets punished for said wrongdoing, Wetherell cooked up a strange analogy involving Florida and Tim Tebow.

'I mean, I figured out how to beat Florida," Wetherell said. "I told them the other day – I've got the deal, man. I got the deal. We're going to send a graduate assistant down to write a [paper] for Tebow, and go ahead and turn it in.

'And then we're not going to tell anybody, until about the 15th of August. And we're going to say, Oh, by the way, look what happened. Urban [Meyer] doesn't know anything about this – he's not involved. And the letter according to the NCAA – you think a violation occurred, not that it did occur, you think it occurred, you've got to sit him.

'Well, we've got the proof, we've the [paper], we've got the one he turned in, we've got the one the graduate assistant [did]. He violated the rules. He's ineligible ... now, they can redshirt him next year, and they may need to do that because they're going to need a quarterback, anyway, in two years and that may not be a bad idea. But – that's just not right. I mean, it's just not right. That's what's the problem – it's just flat wrong.'

On this Wetherell's absolutely right, but it's just too bizarre an analogy tainted by his 'dips**t' comment moments earlier. Wetherell -- and Florida State -- had a chance to be sympathetic figures here, but dropped the ball with the bizarre behavior. But hey, it got our attention.

It didn't take long for the press conference to shut down after that as Florida State's lead spokesman told Wetherell it was near time to end the press conference according to the Orlando Sentinel.

I've met this guy and have saw him give a speech. He said that when he and others drew up the design for the football stadium, they originally wanted hot tubs and bars at the top of the stadium, but it got vetoed by the University
